Your thoughts?

So it took me about 5 months to finally decide on a venue, but now that I have decided on one, I am slightly concerned about safety.I just realized that my venue is down the street from where the boxer Vernon Forrest was robbed and killed.  I was already planning on having one APD officer at the door, but should I invest in someone to watch the cars?  Or walk people to them?  Or valet parking?  I know this sounds absolutely ridiculous, and in my mind, my venue isn't completely in the hood, but I also don't want something insane happening.  Any thoughts?

I would so much rather be safe than sorry.  Imagine attending and having a wonderful time, only to come out and find your car has been broken into and vandalised.  I'd remember that much more, I think. If it's in your budget, I'd say go for it!

    what's the venue?

I could probably give you a more honest opinion if you said the name of the venue.

Thanks for the help!  The venue is Ambient + Studio on Wells St.  It's a big converted warehouse space that's located between a few railroad tracks, so it's hard to place what part of the city it's in exactly.  Let me know what you think.

I'm not familiar with that area, but I'll ask around. Personally, I think you must have felt it was a decent area when you booked it. I did notice that you said it's not "completely " in the hood, which makes me think that it's pretty close. I must say that it's pretty common in Atlanta for an upscale place to be less than a mile from a not so nice area and still be safe though. If it was the recent Vernon Forrest incident that has you worried, if I recall correctly, the people that committed the Vernon Forrest crime were not even from that area, so I can't really say that those kind of crimes are very common in that area. Maybe you can also ask the venue about how other people handle security when they rent the venue. Most importantly, just do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

i would ask the venue if there's a parking lot nearby with an attendant that they can recommend - if that's possible.  i'd hate to have my guests driving around looking for a place to park, esp. if they're from out of town.
