Florist dilemma. WWYD?

So my Mom has a friend who used to own a floral company (12 years ago) and has offerred to do our flowers with a discount. So I sat down with her and while she is nice, I just don't know if I feel 100% comfortable with her doing them. She is older, her floral tastes are a little outdated and we are going for a more modern look. She claims she can do anything though. Just to compare I also met with Southern Stems and felt so much more comfortable with her. She really had some great ideas and her style is definitely a lot more my style. While my Mom's friend is giving us a discount, Southern Stems came in around $600 more. Considering we are doing a lot of flowers, I don't think $600 is that big of a discount from my Mom's friend. Would you suck it up and pay more $ to go with someone more your style and who you felt more comfortable with?

I would.  Although it might be difficult, at the end of the day, I think you will be happier.  And also, if your mother's friend isn't giving you what you want, it will be difficult to tell her because she is more than just a vendor.  That's why it's not usually a great idea to use friends/family as major vendors-- you won't want to hurt their feelings.  Let us know what you decide, GL!

I would also go with who you feel most comfortable with.  At the end of the day, it's your wedding, and you want to make sure you're happy with all the details, including your flowers.  Maybe you can ask your Mom's friend to provide some flowers for the rehearsal dinner, or morning after brunch (if you're doing one).  That might make her feel included, without messing up your big day.  Good luck!!

Ditto dzjenna. My cousin had a similar dilemma, but the family florist was our grandmother! So my cousin just said that the venue would not allow any outside vendors but she'd love to have her do the flowers for the rehearsal dinner.
