Bank Recommendations

FI and I are looking at doing the Yours, Mine, Ours account, but he's being Holy Research man and is driving me nuts. I just wanted some real recommendations. I have PNC, Navy Federal & Susquehanna. Any others we should look in to?

Sonofabitch. My little sister just got a job at Wachovia/WF. And my mom just got a job with Soverign. Both of those two are out for me. I don't bank anywhere that my family can see how much I have in my account.

FI and I have Citizens Bank and love it.  No problems- we have a joint checking and joint savings, and then we each have a personal account.

We can't see each other's personal accounts, but we can see the joint ones.  Transferring money is easy.  I don't use the online billpay through the bank, I prefer to go to the individual websites.  But FI uses it and loves it.  And transfering money between accounts is a breeze.

It also has an app that I've used with no problems.

You can set up savings/checking accounts with ING.  They're very simple.  The checking account has a debit card.

We also have Wachovia and BofA.  I don't really have an issue with either.  Both have ATM charges, but their banks are so common around here that it's not usually an issue.  Plus, 99% of the time I use debit and checks so I rarely withdrawl cash.

I know BofA is just branching into DE, so I'm not sure if there's one near you.

If you use your bank's online bill pay options.. then DON'T do Wachovia!!!  They are now holding your funds anywhere from 2 to 5 days prior to your payment.

I use online bill pay on a weekly basis- so thank you!

The thing I like about PNC is the Virtual wallet app- I can track my account, transfer money, pay bills, etc. right on my phone. Are there any other banks this way?

Wachovia just changed all their internet stuff to Wells Fargo, so I'm not sure.  I'm pretty sure BofA has an app, but I don't use it so I can't give any feedback.

Hil--it's because of that change.  Now that they're Wells Fargo, they are holding payments up to 5 days.  We're switching banks because of that. Sometimes I don't get paid until the day my mortgage is due.. so they can't hold that money.  It isn't there yet!

I was going to say I like PNC - it has the virtual wallet, which is nice.  Plus, depending on the type of account and how much money you keep, all ATM transactions are free, even if they are at another bank.

I pay bills with the Wachovia account, but I don't do bill pay on their site... I make payments with my debit card on the payee's site so I don't have any processing issues.  Of course a mortgage payment is different than other company payments.

I love wachovia, but I don't do the online paying.  I love their way to save savings accounts.  I started one 3 years ago just to save, but it's now being the wedding fund and i have half of what we want to spend on a wedding saved already.  You can put 100/mon but it moves 1 dollor for every debit transaction into the account.  It's interest rate is like 5% and if you don't withdraw from the account in a year you get another bonus.

I usually get cash back from my grocery store when I shop so I don't get charged to use a withdraw fee.  I started that when I was in college and my bank wasn't in the area.

Stay away from TD!!!! I had 3 accounts with them. My personal, our joint and our HSA. After the wedding, I went to change my name on the 3 and some how DH got added to my personal account. They said once someone is added to an account, there is no way of taking them off. I didn't let up on it and they agreed to take him off of the account. However, instead of taking him off, they removed me!
I still have my HSA account there and they have done nothing but screw it up. DH is suppose to be POA of the account so that he can use it when he needs to. We have filled out the paper work 3 different times and they still can't figure out how to issue him a debit card.

We opened our joint checking and savings with Citizens Bank and so far, so good! My individual account is with Beneficial and I really like them. I had a minor problem once and they were spot on with the customer service and worked really hard to make sure everything was resolved then and there. They also don't charge ATM fees at other ATMs (so if you got to the ATM at Wawa or a university, there's no fee).
And they're the five best friends that anyone could have, the five best friends that anyone could have! Photobucket

I <3 my PNC account. If you already have one why not just stick with them?

I have Bank of America and love it.  I travel down south pretty frequently and they have a lot of branches down there as well, which is part of the reason that I have it.  Do you travel anywhere out of the area on a regular basis.  If you do, you'll want to compare which banks are in this area and still in the area that you travel to.

FI and I both have our own PNC accounts and we are very happy with it. I have 3 accounts with PNC interest checking, savings, and my & I opened a wedding savings acccount. FI has PNC's virtual wallet (not sure how much he uses it). I pay ALL my bills through PNC online and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It is soo  easy to set up bills, determine payments, keep track of previous payments. And transfering money is super easy as well. FI and I are looking to open a joint account in the near future with PNC.

I also like that all ATM transactions are free (the will repay your account the money other banks take out through ATM) and then all WaWa's are PNC too.

I've never had a problem with PNC and their customer service in the branches is super friendly and helpful.

I am surprised to hear all the negative feedback from TD, my Mom loves them so much! And I never had any problems with them before, they def didn't want me to get rid of my account when I moved to VA, but northern VA didn't have a single TD bank anywhere! So they really couldn't give me too hard of a time.

I've been with Citizens Bank my whole life starting back when it was Mellon.  I love their customer service!  I've never had a complaint about them.  DH is with a credit union and their rates are always the VERY best.  If you can get with a credit union, that's the best option.

Thanks, everyone. Seriously. I've been trying to get him to just come to PNC, but he has to research every little thing. This way, he at least could see from real people, the opinions on different banks. I think he's gonna come to PNC now. :) Amer- DD's father & I had a checking account there together and I liked it, except the closest branch is 25 minutes away. Their internet banking was so easy to use- and I love that you could transfer to another bank with their online transfers. Most others I've looked at couldn't.

I LOVE PNC, and HATE TD.  TD did nothing but screw us over when we went to open an account/add names/deposit checks after the wedding.  We were told one thing over the phone, when we called to double check what name I should endorse the checks with, and then literally reamed out in the branch for doing it wrong- even though we did what they told us.  DH banked there, and is switching to PNC.

I have never ever had a problem with PNC- my mom and dad have banked there since before I was born, and I have never banked anywhere else.

The other thing I love about PNC over TD?  Their points program.  If you use PNC, and use online bill pay, you get tons of points (as well as if you sign instead of PIN, you get double points).  With TD, if you sign, you get one point, if you PIN you get no points, and if you use online Bill Pay you get nothing.

Within a few weeks I had enough to get a Sephora gift card from PNC.  Lovelovelove.
