DIY invite help!

So we've decided to do panel pockets instead of pocketfolds. We really want to inclue our quote that's part of our theme, on a belly band instead of on the invitation card. But now that we've switched to panel pockets, I'm trying to figure out how to do it. I just love the way it looks!

The idea is for it to look something like this (but cuter ;-P)

What I don't want is for the band to run all the way to the other side, covering part of our invitation. Like this one:

I'm still undecided on a paper band, ribbon band, lace band, lace and ribbon band lol.. but I do love how the layered bands look

I figure that instead of wrapping the band on both sides, I'd have to cut it to where the invitation starts and secure it by gluing a tiny part of the band underneath the invitation card. But I'm worried that it will cause the invitation to look raised right where the band is. Maybe I should just glue the band only on the pocket side and not make it come around at all? Would that look strange? I hope I'm making sense...

SO for you crafty and creative ladies out there, any ideas or suggestions for executing this?? TIA!!

Re: DIY invite help!

  • I love your inspirations & the way you want to use your quote....I love in the first one how the square has the band, but I know you don't like the band going around the entire invite....If you do the lace you'll be able to place the quote on a piece of paper and lay on top of the lace and that is how they would have to 'open' to see the invite..they have to read that first and then open to the invite...

    OR

You could do the belly band thing and have the quote be on the entire bellly band and as they turn it, they'll read it...

I think I prefer the lace idea =)

I think this sounds really cute! I don't know much about bellybands and pocketfolds though, so don't think I can be much help.

Thanks LM! Gotta be honest and I say I lost you a bit though lol... not saying much coming from me however cuz I think I say things in the most confusing ways possible lol. I also prefer the lace band. But since I'm not doing the same "envelope" thing as in the lace picture, I was thinking about doing a lace band but on the panel pocket (using lace instead of the ribbon in picture #1) But of course lace is rather thick and I worry that gluing the ends under the invitation (so it doesn't cover the invitation) will make it look raised and bunched where the lace is glued.

Do you think it will look strange if I just glue the lace on the pocket side only? Basically not have the ends glued under the invite  on the other side?? I guess I'll have to make a mock up, but I'm trying to figure out ideas at least because I won't have much time for mock ups once the pockets come in.
  • OK, I'm super confused.... are you saying you want the belly band on the actual invite, or you want the belly band on the panel pocket?  The invite goes INTO the pocket, doesn't it?

I should probably have finished my coffee before having read this..... hahaha :)

Haha I'm so sorry! I'm terrible with words. Panel pockets have the invite glued on one side and on the reverse there is a pocket for inserts. I'm having trouble because belly bands normally go all the way around... but since the invite is glued on one side, I don't want the band to cover the invitation. I'm trying to figure out if I should have the band glued to one side alone.. I guess not really qualifying as a "belly" band anymore lol. OR if I should glue the ends of the band right under the invitaion, meanwhile avoiding raising and bunching under the invitation as much as possible... any better?
  • i am not crafty nor creative....however, i LOVELOVELOVE the look of the "layered band" that you posted for inspiration....we are hoping to order our invitations within the next few weeks and i have NO IDEA what we are going to end up doing or how to execute them!

Ohhhhhh OK... I didn't know the invite was actually glued to the other side.  That makes more sense now.

If possible, I would try a mock up of each... one invite having the band all the way around, and another with it glued to one side, and see which one you feel better about.  I did about 8 mockups of my invites before I finally decided on what I liked.  It's so helpful to actually have them in your hand to compare side-by-side.  I would even experiment with the different kinds of belly bands, like you mentioned previously.

Keep us posted, I'd love to see what you come up with!
