30-Day Get Fit Challenge - Assignment #3 - 9/19/12

Hey there ladies! I must say, I am not only impressed with the amount of hard work, focus and enthusiasm, but with all the support you are giving one another. That is fantastic!

(1) MOVE: Today's exercise is a combo of upper/lower body. It's hits one of the 3 areas of the all-important "bridal trifecta" as well as your butt and hamstrings. (See the photo below.)
(2) MOTIVATE: The 2nd part of today's assignment is to help inspire you. Please share the most flattering or most memorable compliment you have ever received when you’ve gotten in shape in the past? What made it so special?

If you cannot see the photo above by clicking on it, all workout moves will also be posted on our Bridalicious Boot Camp FB: http://facebook.com/bridaliciousbootcamp

Re: 30-Day Get Fit Challenge - Assignment #3 - 9/19/12

  • Here are some of the "6 Words" Entries from yesterday's assignment. I love these and I even have a few of my own at the bottom of this post:

"Quitting is not in my vocabulary."
"Just one more.  For the dress!!"
Quitting is NO MORE an option!!!
"Motivation is my strength to succeed!!!"
Got to fit into that dress!!
Just think how good you'll look!
Through Christ, I can do anything!
I will feel better for this.
"I will look fabulous every day"
Must fit in gorgeous wedding dress
"You got this! You're almost there!"
How he sees me, I'll feel!
Must Look Hott for New Hubby!
Better to feel sweat than regret!
10 pounds is one size down!
I know I can do this!
"If it’s easy, then not worth it!"
You can do this, don't quit!
Never give up - it'll be worthwhile!

Here are few of my own:
No quitting til the final fitting!
Time to size down that gown!
Doing some sweating for the wedding
Tying the knot, must look hot!

  • I haven't ever put this in writing before. I want to share this with the board because I can relate with what people have taken the time to say. I used to go to a sports camp every summer when I turned ten til I was a teenager. It was called NYSP (National Youth Sports Program) and I loved going because the program offered so many benefits. I had better self esteem, I slept better at night. I noticed I would heal faster, probably because I was eating a balanced diet and exercising. I felt totally accepted and looked forward to the next day. I was told by peers that I was a strong girl. I was told by counselors that I was a great teammate, leader and a good sport even if we lost the match (I was very shy and hardly spoke so I was surprised that anyone noticed me). Hearing positive feedback had a huge impact on me then, but would matter more down the road. At the end of my sophomore year in high school just before I was due to start my last year of sports camp, (I reached their age limit and was eligible to be a counselor) I got into a horrible car accident. The wreck caused me to miss out on many milestones/daily activities like playing high school sports, dancing, and even carrying school books. The foundation that was built by attending sports camp and participating in a healthy way of life kept me from completely giving into depression and giving up. I feel like I am ready to take on this challenge. It reminds me of the positive experiences I had in NYSP.
  • The most flattering compliment I ever received was not being recognized!  I lost over 100 lbs after graduating from college and when I returned for a Homecoming celebration 2 years later, sorority sisters who I spent four years with didn't know who I was at first.  It was awesome to know that all of my hard work paid off and that I looked good, I was in the spotlight for a very good and positive reason that weekend and I love it!

(On a side note, I've since put 30 lbs of that back on and am struggling to get it off- recalling that memory has sort of lit a spark of motivation for me again, as I'm sure may have been the point of this exercise!)
  • My FI was rubbing my leg one night and out of the blue said "Dam your leg is so define now, that running is so working for you"  Gotta love a man that can appreciate a well defined leg.

G'morning fellow brides!! Hope everyone feels great & is on their own journey to a new fabulous you!! Im so pleased with these work outs, although I really thought I was going to dread the push ups, and really... IM WATERED OUT!! lol... Although it has to be really good because just in the last few days I have seen a difference in my skin, I feel excellent waking up -- when I was sure I would be sore. I feel fantastic!!  I just want to say keep up the great work & good luck to you all!!  I'm 444 days away from my wedding & I know I see lots who are just a few months away.  I'm going to make this boot camp my goal til my wedding or meet my goal losing 100lbs.  Dougs plan, I can already see & feel results. Im very impressed & can't wait!! I took my before photo yesterday, looking forward to that after photo in my dress!! QUITTING IS NO MORE AN OPTION!!  I want to have the compliments I used to get all the time 7yrs ago. Hearing people say I have FABULOUS legs... Well Im a law student too, I need to get back in shape not only for my wedding but those hot business suits too!! ;)

    Good Luck Ladies!!!
  • Most flattering comment is after learning how to play soccer last year, having my future mother-in-law and fiance tell me I did a great job after playing a particularly challenging team.  I have never been a great athlete so getting the recognition as an adult feels wonderful.  I owe it to zumba class, running and staying motivated.  I am excited to work muscles I've not concentrated on with the 30-day challenge.  Never stop learning!
  • I lost ten pounds during the summer before my junior year of college and went back for rush with my sorority and everyone told me how good I looked...after working out hard and eating healthy it was nice to know my hard work paid off...I know 10 pounds may not seem like a large amount, but I am only five foot tall and ten pounds can go a long way for a shorty lol
  • My FI's compliment that he was happy that I could keep up with him in a hike or walk and that he didn't always have to be the one out in front.

  • A good hour of aerobics and then this, I'm gonna feel AND look amazing come April!!

Let's see the most memorable compliment...well, about 4 years ago I weighed in at about 300 pounds (going from 162) because of a complicated pregnancy. I was seeing a guy when I was that big, and when we broke up, he told EVERYONE (including myself) that I was ugly, and fat, and he doesn't know why "he was in a relationship with a cow". It was pretty devastating! Then after a year of busting my butt, I dropped weight and I was back down to 179. I had no intention of seeing my ex again, but my old unit in the Army was coming back from a deployment and I wanted to go see them, it just so happens that my ex was there. When I walked by him, his head jerked to the side realizing who I was and his jaw dropped while he just stared at me, right in front of his current girlfriend. Granted his opinion doesn't matter anymore, but knowing that I could turn heads is an amazing feeling! (When someone says I can't do something or looks down on me, it only motivates me!)

Let's get to it ladies, nothing is impossible!! :)
  • So I am just now seeing this challege.  This is just what I need to get started for my wedding in 8 months!  Just gonna jump right in with today's assignment:

The last time I remember getting a compliment was in college when I had started exercising and doing weight watchers.  I had reached the heaviest I had ever been and I was determined to change that.  I had been working out and eating healthy for a few weeks and had only lost 5 lbs.  I went to a family function and multiple people said "you have lost weight. I can tell!"  I remember feeling so proud and accomplished...and it was only 5 lbs!  Imagine what 10 or 20 was going to feel like!
  • I think the biggest compliment I've ever received unfortunately made other people I knew around me feel bad about themselves. When I first dropped 50 lbs (180 to 130) everyone noticed. Everyone kept telling me how amazing I looked and what a great job I did. I just wish it didn't make the other girls in my life feel like they were less than what they are. But it at least kick started themselves into eating better and exercising more.

  • My favorite was from back in high school.  We were playing softball in P.E. class, and when I came up to bat, the other team's captain yelled "Everybody move in!"  I hit the ball so hard (ok, maybe I was aiming at him).  I forget if I got a double or a triple, but the best part was seeing the other team's jaws drop.

  • A day or so late, but I'll just make it up!  I'm really glad for the daily challenge to get in shape!

The most flattering compliment I ever got while getting in shape was "eww you're all sweaty looking."  Why thank you!  I'm here to work out, look like a drowned rat, and lose the chunk; not have beautiful makeup and hair while doing it!

    Let's do it brides!
  • The best compliment I've received has been in the last few months from my fiancee. I have been doing boot camp and watching my diet, as the wedding is 10 months out and I want to make it something maintainable. I have lost 13 pounds so far and going and this challenge is motivation that I need from other brides! My fiance recently commented how good I look and told me I was beautiful before but now I am super sexy and he knows that I am happy with the progress thus far. That compliment coming from him means the world because I knew I had gained weight after switching jobs and he never said anything because she loves me how I am.
I am determined to look great on my wedding day and have already started that journey with the help of this 30 day challenge!
Embrace the curves, but keep it toned and hot!
  • Just completed 3 sets of assignment #3 and feel great! Thank you Doug for focusing on the arms!! It is one of the important things that friends who have gotten married have hated in their wedding pics and I want to make sure my arms are toned for y wedding!! Keep the arms exercises coming!! :)
  • Today was a rough day at work, but a much needed workout to blow off some steam was in order!  Tomorrow is normally my rest day but I think it will do me some good to get up early and work out again.

I don't know if I can remember one specific compliment I received when I was in the best shape. I do remember looking back at those Scope pictures you get done at the beach and thinking wow, I cannot believe I had a body like that. I know its not a reasonable to goal to want my high school body back, but I definitely want to WOW myself as well as my fiance, although he always tells me how good I look now. I have a goal of 20 lbs - I have lost 5 already but that was before I started the Bridalicious Boot Camp DVDs last week (which was week 1). These past two weeks I haven't lost any weight but I think my pants are getting looser, at least I hope.
Let's keep pushing ourselves ladies! WE CAN DO THIS!!!

  • So wasn't sure I would be able to do this after lack of sleep and I did and didn't. Had to do yesterday's as the weights I had at home were too heavy. Going to do tomorrows and today's at the gym tomorrow. I also got in my cardio and stayed good on my diet. The water intake not so good as I had caffeine due to lack of sleep.

Don't sweat it! Everyone is going to have a bad day, probably a lot more than we would hope for, but none the less just keep telling yourself you can do this and push yourself as much as you can. I hope you get more sleep and are ready for tomorrow!!
  • my most flattering compliment was not even words... it was a big sweaty hug at the end of my first 5k! I had lost 40lbs and was finally able to run! It was the longest 40 minutes of my life but soooo worth it. I had trained and trained for that race and to finish was amazing. :) The hug I got afterwards was the best feeling :)

I am now down another 27lbs and although my cardiologist says running isn't in my body's best interest I still hit the gym 3-5 days a week.

I will do today's assignment tonight at the gym! Wink
