Overly-opinionated anti-Catholic stepfather

My FI's stepfather is extremely anti-Catholic.  To the point he insults me how much he looks down on the religion I was raised into.  My FI has decided to join RCIA so that we can share the faith together, and also so we can have a full mass for our ceremony, which has always been important to me.  I am worried, though, that his stepfather's opinions will be announced at some point leading up to or during our wedding, and in front of a member of my family.  Worst of all would be him saying something in front of my parents.  He is a very opinionated man and does not censor his thoughts well before saying something.  How should I approach talking to him and/or my FI and future mother-in-law about making sure he doesn't say something off-color to my family?  I would also like to stop him saying these insulting things in front of me, but I'll take what I can get.

If it is your FI's stepfather, then your FI should speak to him. All that needs to be said is "It's perfectly fine to have a different point of view, but I ask that you respect us, our choices and our beliefs by refraining from insulting or ridiculing our faith while in our company or in Annekite's family's company"

    Well said, Riss!

And Annekite . . . don't forget to pray for him.  Pray, pray, pray - and ask the Lord for peace and patience in your own heart so that you may always approach him in love, even when it's extremely difficult to do so!   ;-)

I agree with Riss and I also think you should let your family know to not take it personally or argue with him.  You really can't control what he says or does but you can prepare other people for it.  If he gets no reaction from your family and they just walk away or ignore him then he'll just have to shut up because there's no one to talk to.
