FI's Catholic, I'm not - ANOTHER question for Catholic Wedding

I was baptized Greek Orthodox which I understand is accepted by the Catholic Church - when I meet with the priest will I have to prove my baptism?  Do I need a certificate of baptism (which I'm having trouble getting) or would something like a letter from the Orthodox priest suffice?  Thanks!

I need to provide my FI's baptismal certificate to our church, and he's Catholic.  I was baptized in the church we're marrying in, they already have mine.  Our priest helping us through our Pre Cana (not the church we're marrying in) requested both of our baptismal certificates, and my church "vouching" for me wouldn't be acceptable.

yes, if they accept greek orthodox as catholic then you have to provide baptismal certificate.  contact your church you were baptized in now to see what you can do.

FI and I both had to give baptismal certificates. He was only baptized, I received all Sacraments and had to give Confirmation and Communion records as well.

The letter may suffice, I think it all depends on the priest.

you will most likely have to produce the record.  however, if you dont have it you dont have it.  the priest should be able to work with you.

ive never understood why some places request confirmation certs.  confirmation is not required for marriage.  anywho.

I had to show my baptismal certificate.  But, if you had a letter from their priest and had some explanation of why a copy of the certificate could not be obtained, I would think they should be able to move forward.  Although, I simply contacted the church I was baptized in and they mailed me a certificate.  I would think the church would have a clear record of such events.

FI is Catholic, and I'm not, and Catholic church wanted baptismal records from both of us. I was baptized in Methodist church, and couldn't obtain an actual certificate, so I had my pastor write a letter giving the date and who conducted the baptism, and that was accepted.

Calypso--I agree re: confirmation. I had to call the church I grew up in to have them send proof of confirmation since the Baptismal certificate they sent had no notations on confirmation date.

Thanks ladies, sounds like I'll have to lean on my priest for my certificate, could take extra time - it's the Greek way!
