Catholic Wedding and Mother Giving Away?

My FI and I are in the beginning stages of planning our wedding. He is Catholic and I am not. We had our first meeting with our Father yesterday and I totally forget to mention this fact. My father was not in my life and I have always planned on my mother giving me away. But I have been reading on some websites that a male must give the bride away. Any thoughts?

No one is "given" away at a Catholic wedding. The couple must come freely without reservation. There is no question of "who gives this woman" or anything.

The actual rite says that the couple may walk in together, or some other cultural practice. The tradition has become the father walking in with the bride, but is not necessary. You may walk in with whomever you wish.

Thanks for the quick post! That is very good to hear. We would have to rethink the ceremony location if I wasn't able to walk in with my mom. She has errand the right to walk me down.

My priest actually suggested having both of my parents walk me down the aisle instead of just my father.

The priest doing our prep suggested either the two of us walking down the aisle by ourselves- or each of us with our respective set of parents.     We are still trying to figure it out-  but it's definitely "allowed"!

My mother walked me down the aisle   The priest didn't think twice when I said it.  Shouldn't be any issues.
