Virgin Diaries?

I'm just curious to hear your thoughts on this show, I'm watching it right now. I know this isn't a religious show, but it is a subject dear to me.

I personally dislike reality t.v. ....a lot.. but FI and I were interested to see how they portray virgins (we are waiting for our wedding) on this show.

In my experience I've had people look at me like I have 3 heads when I say that FI and I are waiting. I'm curious to see if/how this show will change things.

I don't have an opinion, as I'm still watching it, but I'm interetested to hear what you ladies think!

I haven't heard of this, however it sounds really intersting, what channel and time is it on?

I have not heard of it either. Probably b/c we don't have cable. And I could give a crap less. Reality tv isn't real and it makes me want to punch people.

I saw a commercial for it with two people kissing very inappropriately at the altar and was totally turned off. It, like so many of this sort of show, was clearly going to be exploitative and a bad representation of what waiting until marriage is about.

yes, this. I hadn't actually heard about it til last night, but it does sound like it is going to make people who wait look ridiculous. :-(<div>(Not something that I either want to support, or will make me happy by watching!)</div>

I watched it and I am sad to say that it lived up to my extremely low expectations. The show featured one really creepy guy in his 30s looking for a hook up so that he can 'finally' lose his virginity (he's been 'trying' since high school), three roommates looking for their "rockstar husbands," and a couple who hasn't kissed or had sex until their wedding day (the show follows up with them after the honneymoon and they express their dissappointment after their encounter). Overall a terrible show, exacly as I had expected. Although I did have half a mind to sign up for the show myself to prove to them that there ARE normal people out there who are abstaining until their wedding night...

I have not seen the show either, but I am the receptionist in a salon we always have tons of magazines hanging around. Anyway, I was bored yesterday and they had something about it in people magazine but it was really sad because like everyone else has said they made it look like a really bad show.  Also, they made it clear that they thought that waiting until marriage was areally bad/rare idea.  It's really sad to see what our wolrd has come to today. :(

It was playing at the airport last night while I was waiting for my flight.  Some girls on my local board were talking about it -- the way they portray the couples as "freaks" for being virgins and just the whole attitude really turned me off.  I tend to dislike TLC reality shows more than most other reality shows, anyway.

I read articles about it and along with what everyone else said, I was offended by the fact that they featured a girl who calls herself a virgin even though she's not. That's so insulting to actual virgins. Own up to your mistakes! I had sex before I became a Catholic and I would never claim I'm a virgin, even though I have promised to not have sex again until I'm married. My mistakes made me who I am today and it's not fair to anyone to lie to try to make yourself feel better.

To Chloeagh: Reclaimed virginity is not something she just made up, many people who have been sexually active in the past have 'reclaimed' their virginity. I don't find it insulting, we are all able to recieve forgivness for our past mistakes. The point of reclaimed virginity is not to ignore your past mistakes, it's to start a new life with a clean slate. That being said I did find those girls terribly annoying and superficial.

It's on TLC on Sundays and I'm sad to say that I found the show beyond awful. I ended up turning it off (because it made me want to punch someone, too!) and it confirmed my fear that they would portray being a virgin as weird, rare, something to make fun of, and only awkward couples are doing it.

Why is this tv now? God help our kids...but seriously.

DH and I watched it and found it hilarious that this really became a show. First off, their first kiss at their wedding was both uncomfortable to watch and obviously uncomfortable for their families to watch. Also, making out throughout their whole wedding was incredibly unrealistic and super awkward. We won't be watching it again. It was just way too weird.

This makes me so sad.  The previews alone really made me feel like this show waas going to be bad.  I decided not to judge till watching it.  Now I have no desire to watch it.  How awful.
