Ft. Myers/Naples Florist, DJ/Sound tech, & Hair/Makeup Artist Recommendations?

Hi everyone - this is my first post but you ladies all seem so helpful that I figured it was worth a shot to solicit some first-hand recommendations!  I'm getting married at Miromar Lakes on November 20, 2010, but I live in Miami so I'm only over there once every couple of months, and usually only for a quick Saturday or something, which is making planning a little tough - I already have a photographer (we're flying him in from CA) but have really been stressing about finding a good florist - not to mention the DJ/sound tech and a hair/makeup artist (I think Miromar has people on-site for salon stuff but I know it's super expensive there and I'm nervous about relying on them without word-of-mouth recommendations)...

So far for flowers I've talked to Heaven Scent Flowers in Bonita Springs and Grace Lakes Florist in Naples - both of whom were really nice and seemed to do good work, but I kind of found them on my own from the internet and would love to know if any of you have worked with either of these places - OR if you have any other suggestions for good florists in the area that are reasonably priced but do interesting/creative work, especially with brightly colored orchids and roses.  At this point, centerpieces seem to be such a money-pit that I think I'm going to go the DIY rout on those, but we'll see. (FYI I got 7" glass cylinders w/ a 3.5" diameter for $1 each at DollarTree.com - and saved the shipping by having them shipped to a local DollarTree and picking them up!  They look just like ones that sell for $14 at Pottery Barn!)

I haven't even started talking to DJs yet - the ones I have seen mentioned a lot are RJ Vida, Sword Sounds, and Grant Hermond & Assoc. - we are looking for someone who can mix it up and get people out on the dance floor (and keep them there!) - my fiance is obsessed with hip-hop style stuff, but his Cuban mother will want some cuban/spanish style stuff and my family will want some oldies - and of course there are plenty of contemporary songs (and even some country) that we would like included if possible... I don't really want lots of super cheesy stuff (i.e. chicken dance and conga line) but am fine with some cheese if it gets people participating (i.e. electric slide).
SO - any support for the ones I listed/have heard of from other posts or any other recommendations of people we should consider?  I'd also really love to know if someone thought a DJ did a particularly bad job so I know who to steer clear of...

Lastly (but not least importantly!), any suggestions you have on hair/makeup artists would be great (it does not have to be the same person if someone is awesome with either hair or makeup, please let me know ).  I have a fairly specific idea in mind for my hair, so I'd like someone who can follow photos/a vision pretty well - and for makeup I'd like someone who's really good at getting you "photo ready" with the foundation and doing really amazing eye makeup.

Sorry to be so long-winded - but you ladies know how it goes when you have all this stuff running through your mind!!

Any help/suggestions you can give would be MOST appreciated!!
Thanks in advance,
Liz :)

Hi and welcome to the board!!!

I'm a Naples bride, but most of my vendors are traveling. For DJ were using Rob Sword. I'm from CA and didn't have time to meet with him while in FL. After all the great things people have had to say about him I finally called. WE LOVE HIM!!! He's actually going to be our officiant also.
For flowers were using Stephanie from Fish Hawk florist. And lastly for hair and make up I'm using Jamie Cintron, she's from Naples.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm a Naples bride as well!  Welcome to the board!  I LOVE the Miromar Lakes site, I serisouly considered them for my venue.  We are using Sunset Entertainment as our DJ  My FI picked them out and I just went with the flow so I can't elaborate too much.

I just met with florists and I think I am going togo with Something Blue flowers.  It is a fairly new busines but she has been working in floral arranging with other florists for years.  I loved her style!

For hair and m/u do you think you want someone on site or are you going to go to them?  I am not familliar with the Estero area as much as Naples but you can PM me if you want some salon recs in the Naples area.  I am not too familiar with stylists who travel though, sorry =(

You should check The Flower Bossom in Tampa. The girls there did an amazing job with all our arrrangements!! Make sure you speak with Eileen! She handles all the designing and is great to work with! her number is (813) 350-7200

If you want an awesome dj, who also happens to be Cuban, check out Felix The DJ! We had him at our reception and was amazing! He has a club style dj. I remember him telling me that he worked at clubs in South Beach! Highly recommended! (727) 327-8895

I recommed Colors by Linny for your make up! Although she's a little more than most make up artist she does an amazing job!! She has alot of experience including TV work!! Love working with her and gives your various options on make up brands! (813) 629-6571

I am a Fort Myers Bride Welcome!!

I am using Rob Sword from Sword and Sounds for my officiant and DJ. He is traveling from Clearwater I believe but we have heard nothing but great things about him, so we took a chance. For hair and makeup I am also using Jamie Cintron, my friend just got married this past weekend and she did a great job!

I might not be a big help on the Florist end since I am only having my bouquet done with fresh flowers. But in case you want to know I went through Fort Myers Florist. They were very nice and beat anyone else I got quotes from on price.

    Good Luck :)

    Hi!
I am also using Sword Sounds for my DJ and officiant. I also had Ron Rutz and Black Tie Entertainment recommended to me by several people.
For florist I am using Signature Florals out of Fort Myers and cannot recommend them enough. Very helpful and very reasonable prices. Sue was very willing to work with my budget, and I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable things were.
For hair/make-up I am using Red Salon and Spa in Fort Myers, and they will travel. You could also try Danielle Sforza.
    Good luck!!!
