NWR: Vent, Wisdom Teeth!

Last Thursday I had my wisdom teeth removed, and it wasn't too bad actually. My surgeon was really great, I hardly had any pain, and didn't get sick at all. But, I had been having some localized pain in my right jaw, and just thought I was healing, but last night I was changing my sheets and accidentally bumped my jaw- OUCH. Extreme pain, brought tears to my eyes. My pain meds don't really seem to work like they had been, and I can tell when they are about to wear off, thats when the throbbing starts. Plus, my left side is perfectly fine. No extra pain. :(This sucks! I want my old, non hurting wisdom teeth back!I'm sure some of you ladies have had your wisdom teeth out. Did any of you get dry socket or have any other complications?

I had mine taken out about 3 years ago b/c my dentist kept insisting I get them out. I was perfectly fine with them in :). He said if I didn't get them out they would eventually shift my teeth so I had them removed. Unfortunately the right side of my lip and part of my chin is permanently numb due to a nerve being bruised during surgery. You know those video's they show you that it "could" happen... like 1 in 100,000... well that was me. So if you think your pain is bad... well I can't feel part of my lip and chin... I was really upset about it and sometimes still am, but I guess things could always be worse right? Good Luck and hope your pain goes away.... it's not permanent.

My expirience was pretty bad, but no permanent damage besides the occasional TMJ.First off my face swelled up and I looked like a chip munk.  I also had horrible bruising. I ended up getting 2 dry sockets which really made me mad, because I didnt even smoke. I was told that if you are on birth control you may be more prone to get them so maybe that was my problem, Anyways, it REALLY hurt! I knew something wasnt right. I went back to the surgeon, so they could fix/pop it or whatever they did, and it had to heal all over again. Then just when I was starting to feel better, I got the flu. It was just a crappy 2 weeks. My sister just recently got hers removed and she had very little swelling, and luckily her expirience was soo much better than mine. Either they have came a long way in the last 5 years or my surgeon sucked!!!I would def call your surgeon if I was you. Its better to just let then know whats going on and see what they suggest to be on the safe side. Good luck & hope u feel better :)

I had mine out in 2005.  What an event!!! They gave me too much gas at one point that I passed out and then when I woke up I puked all over the dentist's shoes (and my hair).  I was swollen like a chipmunk for EVER, it seemed.  I already have a rather sqare jaw line...last thing I wanted was to add to the boxiness. LOL No dry sockets, though - thank GOD!  I hear they are SUPER painful!

JIML!!!!  That happened to my mom YEARS ago when she had some dental work done!   Now, when we're eating, she may have a piece of food on her chin but has NO idea because it's numb.   So we just say "Numb spot!" and she knows to wipe it! hahahahaha

I also had complications from oral surgery.  It was extremely painful but I have nerve damage like pp.  The left side of my lip and the skin just below it to about the middle of my lip are completely numb...sometimes I have to wipe the corner of my mouth to make sure I'm not drooling out of that side of my mouth b/c I don't have a lot of sensation there.  When I touch my lip it is very uncomfortable b/c it feels like touching open raw nerves.  They told me my sensation should come back within 4 months....well too bad b/c it's been like 3 years and it still isn't.  Then they started talking about seeing nerve specialists to do surgery on it and I'm like at least my face isn't droopy so I'll just deal with it.It's a very weird sensation but one that I've kind of grown used to.  Hopefully you'll feel better in a few days!

I had mine taken out last year. the two on the bottom and four fillings all at once.  the dentist numbed me very well and I didn't need surgery. he just yanked them out. i had normal pain and swelling but other than that it was an ok experience.  I have had another wisdom tooth up top pulled since then and a twelve year moler just last month.  I had more pain from my twelve year moler then i ever did with my wisdom teeth and fillings. who would of thought

I had mine taken out last fall also. 3 of the 4 wisdom teeth came in just fine and there was plenty of room, but that 4th one kept dropping and causing pain and was going to cause my teeth to shift, so the dentist basically made the appointment for the surgery for me (he's an old family friend). I had been putting it off for years but sucked it up and went in and got it done and it wasn't too bad at all. I had heard horror stories from everyone about it. Sometimes the spot on the top left of my mouth is sore I'm not sure if its just sensitive now that new gum has grown over the incision or what. But I'm with all of you I would have been happy to keep them in. But back to the OP's post, maybe you have dry sockets, I've heard that causes incredible pain and it could be why when you hit that part of your jaw you had eye watering and stuff. I would call your surgeon or dentist, I'm sure you made a follow-up appointment and see if he can see you sooner. I hope you feel better soon :)

I am very grateful that my mouth has no permanent numbing. That would be terrible, I am sorry to hear about those that it has happened to. I know my temporary pain is nothing compared to life long numbness, but dang it, I really still don't enjoy it.But this is just ridiculous. I have my appointment for 3 today. I'm pretty sure I have either dry socket or an infection, or maybe both. The reason they wanted my wisdom teeth taken out was I had an infection around the tooth that was in the same spot as my pain now. So, it would make sense to have another infection there.Plus I am swollen on just the right side now. My left side is perfectly fine. Anyway, I still can't drive (still on vicodan!), so I my dad is driving down to pick me up and take me to my appointment. Thanks for all the replies ladies! It makes me feel better talking to you all. :)

Just got finished at the doctors, and I have dry socket and an infection. Good to find out so I can get on the road to recovery! They have me an antibiotic and packed the socket with a pain killing gauze. I feel better a little already!
