How many is too many?

Ok, i just came from reading Photo section here on the Knot, and one girl was getting 4 thousand images. Really?? What the heck do you do with that? Am I really naive in thinking that  600 image is enough for 6 hours?? Should i demand more images? I really don't care for the amount, what i care is to get the important once. What are you girls getting with your packages??

First off, 4,000 images sounds just like the photographer just shoots and burns. Meaning they don't edit the photos, they just go through and burns all of the images on the disk without going through them. My BFF is a pro photographer in San Diego and I know that she says she like to give 75-100 images per hour. Of course that includes her editing and such. I would be more concerned with quality over quantity, personally.

Also, I would be VERY overwhelmed looking at 4,000 images. I want to trust that my photographer is actually taking their time to get the best images from my day, not just half a$$ing it.

600 images can get taken pretty quickly, you'd be surprised. We are getting unlimited images, our package is based on time instead of pictures taken though. I think different photographers do it differently. We get 2 photographers for I think 8 hours (to cover getting ready pictures through the ceremony and reception) and unlimited pictures.

ceeceed, that's what i thought. Our photographer said she takes a lot of images, but only provides the best, she edits them before they go on cd. i also believe in quality over quantity.

@Angie - I just looked at her post and she said she got 400 images, not 4,000.

@Sarah - I think what they mean by unlimited photographs means that they don't put a cap on the number of images. I would be surprised if you got more than say 1,500 images from an 8 hours day. i write a lot of contracts for my law firm (most of my clients are local businesses, landlords, etc) and most people don't want to guarantee any number of images because if they come in below that, they are on the hook for the difference. it's an easy way to get around it. also, you have to account for bad photos (blurry, people's eyes closed, duplicates and just plain bad photos) again, just my opinion. it's not meant to scare you, but meant to keep your expectations at a reasonable level. :)

I think you looked at the wrong post, there was a girl who said 4,000 proofs. She didn't say she gets 400 images. I don't know lol

  • I got 623 Edited for 6 hours.  It would have been more, but we didn't have a wedding party and it was a very intimate wedding with only 35 guests.
