9/12/09 Vendor Reviews

Hi everyone! I'm not quite back yet, but I will be in a few days. We had some downtime, so I thought I'd post. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about the new Knottie rules because I had amazing vendors! tm photography Tine is the most amazing photographer in Cincinnati, hands down. She is awesome to work with and you will NOT be disappointed in her pictures. Her second shooter, Jason, was super nice, too! She was a big stretch for our budget, but we were so excited by our engagement pictures and are sure our wedding pictures will be even more amazing. I also have to mention that I am a big girl and she makes me feel like a supermodel! I will post the photo gallery when I get the link. Katie Elfers, Inspired Floral Design Katie seriously took our budget wedding and transformed it into a masterpiece. Her prices are really low (too low for the quality of work, if you ask me) and the end result was amazing! She made our $12000 wedding look like $50000! She did my bouquet, the boutonnieres, 25 centerpieces, and I'm sure more that I am missing. She even made an extra trip downtown just to drop off my bouquet. She also worked within my budget and gave great suggestions for cheaper but prettier flowers! Be Creative Catering Travis Faris is awesome to work for. The prices are exactly what you see on the website, and the quality of the food is amazing!!! My cousin had a reception a month ago with a McHale's property (which is 3-4 times more expensive), and everyone kept whispering in my ear how much better OUR food was! Meet Travis, taste his food, and I promise you will not be disappointed. He and his ultra professional staff served everyone great food, quickly. I am continuing to use Be Creative for other various professional functions in my school roles. Jennifer Nally I love Jen! She is expensive (for me, a budget bride) but she took me on just a few weeks before the wedding, on her BIRTHDAY no less, and did a PHENOMENAL job on my hair. It stayed gorgeous all day long, and even the next day! Keep in mind that I did not do an updo - I did a very complicated, 40's style down-do. She also did all my girls' hair, and they looked great all night, even after dancing and beer :-) Heidi McKenna I know some girls here rave about Nancy, and I'm not knocking her because she is awesome, but I love what Heidi came up with for me and all my girls. She also keeps you feeling very comfortable with the way she keeps the conversation going. St. Patrick's Church, Taylor Mill, KY This is the church I grew up in. The church itself is very beautiful, but the reception hall is very dated. I had to do a lot of work to make it gorgeous! I recommend all of my vendors wholeheartedly. The rest of the wedding was done by me, so I don't have any other vendors. It was worth every penny, and DH and I loved how special and personal everything was!

Oh! I forgot one! Cakes by Claudette! Claudette is my neighbor, and she is just breaking into the cake baking business professionally. She has been baking cakes for years for family functions. Everyone ate at least one or two pieces of cake! I know I had two pieces myself. She made all the cakes, icings, and fillings from scratch. She also did a great job transforming my very contemporary cake design into real life! I have her contact info, so page me if you need it here or on the Sept. 09 board. All of the cake was gone at the end of the night, three huge square tiers. We were lucky that someone remembered to pull off the top layer for us to save, otherwise they would've eaten that, too! She is very affordable (although our cake was a gift), but will not disappoint you.

Hi! So glad that your wedding was great! Could you post Claudette's information? I'm in the process of finding a baker so the more people to taste with the better! :) Where is she located? Thanks so much!

Hi!  I have a question about Katie Elfers.  I have a similar budget to yours, around $12-15k, and I was wondering what I should expect if my budget for flowers is $500-800.  I'm afraid that it won't get me much and that Katie Elfers won't work with me.I will have having 4 BMs, 4 GMs, 2 junior BMs, 2 FGs, and then will be needing a ton of boutonnieres because we have huge families.  Minimal decoration is fine.

Sounds like everything went well!  I can't wait to see your pictures!  Which Sottero Midgley gown did you get?  I am a plus size bride and am looking at Maggie Sottero gowns atBridal and Formal.  Congrats!!

Email me for Claudette's info: frenchteacher08 at yahoo dot com. She is located in Independence. My best suggestion for Katie Elfers is to contact her and get a price quote. She will be able to tell you all the way down to the last boutonniere  how much it will cost. She will give you an itemized report. One suggestion: come with flower ideas that you like and ask for alternative cheaper flowers that still give the same look. I had her use alstroemeria for the centerpieces and it looked just as good as the orchids for less than half the price.I had Sottero & Midgely's ASM 3171. I'm a size 14/16 IRL but because of my shape I only wore a size 10 gown (I'm really small around the top and middle, really big in the lower region). I LOVED this gown, and it was totally not what I thought I wanted at all!

Congrats! Sounds like everything was perfect! Do Jennifer Nally and Heidi McKenna run their own business or do they each work for a certain salon? If you have any contact/website info I'd greatly appreciate it. TIA.
