Venue Feedback: Statler, Hotel Lafayette, La Galleria, Samuel's, Adam's Mark

Hello -

If anyone has been to a wedding at any of these venues can you leave some pro's or con's? I am in the "trying to choose a reception venue" stage and feeling overwhelmed!

My list of places:

-Statler City (anyone have insights on price?)
-Hotel Lafayette or Pearl at the Webb lofts
-La Galleria in OP
-Ramada Hotel, Getzville
-Salvatore's
-Samuel's Grand Manor

I know this is a lot but if anyone had any thoughts to share I would be greatful! Thanks!

I have been to a baby shower @ La Galleria. It's a pretty setting, food was very good, but the downside to the room they held it in was all the posts throughout, which really obstructed the view. 

I haven't been to an event at the Ramada but I have friends who have and no one has said good things. 

We recently were at the Lafayette for dinner at the Pan American Grill and walked around quite a bit. The spaces are gorgeous and the food at the restaurant was excellent. It seems nice that they have a florist and Butterwood right there as well. A close friend was to get married there this coming January however her FI was deployed this week to Afghanistan for a year w/ the army. She said she had no issues at all from the Lafayette when having to change their wedding date, was still given the pricing they booked at and the special deals they had gotten for having a winter wedding even though it won't be a winter wedding anymore. I was pretty impressed by that.

Thank you so much for that info! I saw some pictures of La Galleria and I can see what you mean about those posts. And Ramada Inn I haven't been hearing any good feedback which sucks b/c we want to get something near a hotel for all the guests.

Statler City:

I thought the rooms were gorgeous but the common areas needed improvement still.  Also, getting there was a bit complicated because I'm not that familiar with driving in the city(and neither are most of my guests).  It didn't make a great first impression on me and fi and I quickly crossed it off our list.  

Hotel Lafayette:

With all the press, I was so UNDERWHELMED when I went to my fi's co-workers wedding there.  First off, when we arrived there was a man on the opposite side of the street snorting something up his nose, soooo not okay.  The neighborhood left A LOT to be desired.  I don't know if they cheaped out or what but the food was not that good, the decor was lame, and alothough the building is beautiful, I must say I have been to better weddings. Most of the people at my table were not thrilled with the food.  No one wanted to say anything at first and a girl he works with said something and then everyone else agreed. I thought the building was not that great considering we had to listen about it every night on the news for months. 

Pearl at Webb Lofts:

I have not been here, but I did go to a wedding at Pearl Street and the food was good, I did not care for the venue that much, and I found it odd it seemed like a nose ring was part of the waiters uniform(kind of unprofessional). 

La Galleria:

I've heard good things, but never actually got to checking it out, was not in my neighborhood(everyone in our families are from Williamsville). 

Ramada:

Never even heard of anyone having a wedding here, looks more like a corporate place to me.  I drive by it all the time but I just never even thought of it for my wedding. 

Salvatore's:

I have been to two weddings here.  One in their new room and one in the old part.  I don't like that there are no windows, and also, Ive never been a fan of their decorating style.  That being said one of the weddings I went to was very Italian, so it worked for their family.  The other one, everything was more natural looking as far as the decor the bride picked.  I don;t know why she booked salvatore's but when you have a wedding there they put out all these terribly tacky decorations with glitter and stuff and they did not go at all.  The food was pretty good both times.  I also like that its easy to get to being near the 33 and 90 and such and they have ample parking.  I know this is a banquety thing to do, but you could not get a "strong" drink, they all seemed very watered down. 

Samuel's:

I have been to four weddings here(one when I was like 13, 3 recent).  They were all wonderful.  The food is AMAZING.  I was in a different room for all 3 recently.  Each was nice and had its own special touch.  I feel like they attended to every detail.  There were plenty of servers.  One of the weddings actually took place outside there and was gorgeous.  The only down side is you walk through the rooms to get outside(but you walked through someone elses space which was wierd and they were setting it up).  Of all these, it was my favorite, which is why I think so many people pick it.  Because they have many weddings at once, I would reccomend the Josephine room upstairs, the wedding I went to there was nicest, it has an outdoor balcony people can hang out on and felt much more intimate.  The staff seems a little bit more professional to me too.  They have a mix of old and young people(not just college kids- and it didn't look like they just bussed in a bunch of people from the city and handed out uniforms like some places).  The grounds are awesome, and I like that the location is easy to get to, and the valet parking.

If you look at my vedor review just posted today, you can see that I just had my reception at the Lafayette about two weeks ago.  We were really happy with it overall.  Yes, the neighborhood that it's in isn't the best, but we had valet parking for our guests, so it's not like people were really even exposed to anything--they just hopped out of their cars at the front door and hopped back in them at the end of the night.  Since it's the first thing on that street to be renovated and opened, I'd expect the neighborhood to become better as more things open up and there's more regular traffic to other businesses.  

One other note about the decor, there are three different banquet rooms in the hotel.  The one downstairs is the Crystal Ballroom, and that is managed by the same catering company who handles Aqua (the former Harry's Harbour).  It is a much more formal space, and it looks really beautiful.  The top two banquet rooms are catered by Pearl Street, the Greenhouse Room and The Courtyard room.  They are both more industrial looking with wood and brick, more in keeping with the feel that's at Pearl Street Grille and at Pearl at the Webb Building.  The Courtyard room has wooden wainscotting like the rooms at the Webb building.  The Greenhouse room  has exposed brick and also huge windows along one side of the room.  As far as decor beyond that, centerpieces, linens, etc are always decided by the bride and what she wants to do, so you can't really categorize the decor at the Lafayette as lame when it will vary wedding to wedding.  There isn't anything in the upstairs rooms that can't be changed, unlike a lot of banquet facilities that have carpet, curtains, etc. that are there to stay and have to work with wedding colors you've chosen.  Anyway, hope this helps.

Statler City  - One of the most expensive venues in Buffalo.  They have a minimum amount that you have to spend.  You MUST pay for valet parking for each and every guest even though you know that every single guest won't have a car.  Rooms are very pretty and spacious, but entrance way and common areas are still under construction.  On the plus side, the banquet team is very prompt in their responses and does a great deal of follow up after your tour.


Hotel Lafayette  - Lafatette is a gorgeous space but it is clear they are going through growing pains.  Also, I had a hard time getting people to return calls.  It turned me off figuring that if they won't return phone calls to get your business what will they do once they have your money?!

Ramada Hotel, Getzville - very standard banqeut hall type atmosphere.  Food is decent and prices are some of the best in the area, but nothing unique or special about the venue


-Salvatore's - food is good and rooms are newly built or renovated/decorated.  Remember that there will be many other events going on at the same time as your event and that it IS Salvatores so there is over the top decor everywhere.  They are very easy to work with (I hosted a non wedding event there).  Very responsive, willing to work with changes, etc. 


-Samuel's Grand Manor - they can have up to four weddings in one night and they almost always start all the weddings at the same time.  Meaning everyone is arriving at the same time (that can lead to confusion).  Also, everyone uses the same bathrooms, so there is almost always a line if there is more than one event that night.  If they have split the downstairs ballrooms, you may hear the music from the other wedding/event coming through the walls.  Food is much better at places like Salvatores than at Statler.

Have you considered the Millennium? We were looking for something with a hotel too and that's why we ended up going there. Just something else to consider. There's also the Marriott in Amherst.

Well! Since I visited a couple of the places that you have listed here just a few weeks ago.....

-Statler City -- We met with Charlotte who was very profressional and helpful. You are looking at about $75/pp. The interior lobby and the one room that we looked at were very nice. The exterior scaffolding was a bit of a downside. Charlotte mentioned that they had no plans/timeline for when it would be removed since they need to fix the entire roof of the buliding. Charlotte followed up with me and was very helpful answering every question. We did not choose this because it felt a bit too formal for what we are looking for, and the price was higher than we wanted.

-Hotel Lafayette or Pearl at the Webb lofts -- These were my #1 and #2 choices. The courtyard spaces at the hotel are to die for! I really liked the Courtyard Room as soon as I walked in. I decided against it because after seeing pictures, I was unsure about all of the pipes in the room (lower ceiling), but the skylights are amazing. I preferred the Greenhouse room, but it was much further away from it's courtyard (downstairs) and their minimum for a Sat was higher than the Courtyard Room (and too high #s for what I wanted).
We ended up choosing the Pearl at the Webb. There is only one event going on in the building, and people can easily travel between Pearl St before/after the reception. Also, they are re-doing some of the lofts to turn them into "hotel suites" in a few  months, so this would be handy since people can just stay upstairs. The high ceilings look amazing in pictures (I googled for pro photos) and I have seen some really amazing stuff done with the decor. TONS of space for the dance floor, which is very important to me.

-La Galleria in OP -- I cannot remember her name, but the woman that we met with was very welcoming and even sent us a follow up thank you card! We really liked the menu and it had some great customization options that were not on their website (at least that I found). We didn't love the ceremony/outdoor spots: one was facing the busy road, and the other had a "nice" view of the crummy motel next door. Overall the interior was nice, and there was a little bridal suite upstairs which was handy. We decided against it because of the ceremony space, the lack of proximity to the city and how we were more WOWed by the Webb.

I didn't visit the other three! Good luck, let me know if you have any more specific questions about the ones that I did visit.

We had our daughters wedding at the Adam's Mark last July and they were amazing! Everything was beautiful and the food was delicious, our guests could not stop commenting about it. My second daughter is getting married next summer and she is now looking for a place for her reception and she has checked out several places including LaGalleria (didn't like the posts either) and Samuel's Grand Manor and nothing compares. She is going tonight to the Adam's Mark and will probably have her reception there also. They were very accommodating to anything we needed and the rooms were beautiful.

Thank you for your insights!! I spoke with Pearl Street today and I gave the woman 4 different dates for next fall and everything they had was booked!! So they must be doing something right- thanks again.

That's awesome- my fiance really has his mind set on Adam's Mark. We are going to meet with someone fromt there next weekend.

Did you have a lot of guests stay at the hotel? Did they recieve a discount at all? Do you know about how much it was a person?

My wedding is June 15 of next year and we're doing our ceremony and room block at Adam's Mark and our reception at Pearl Street.

Adam's Mark has been mostly renovated, guestroom wise, but the standard rooms have not. I was told by the catering girl that she suggests that we have our guests stay in the suites as they've all been updated. We are using a small narrow room for our ceremony which will be perfect, called the Erie Preconvene. They have an arch we're renting and they will set up the chairs and the backdrop for us. It's reasonable for the ceremony considering some of the quotes I got elsewhere. They also have a piano we're contemplating using for the ceremony.

For the guestrooms, I got quoted $119/night for standard, $139/night for queen suite and $149/night for king suite. We got a few other discounts because we asked and we were given a few surprise discounts also. They're very reasonable and if you meet with them, they'll certainly help you out.

Now, the room blocks were an interesting story. I guess they do a 20 room courtesy block, but if you need more than that, they put you on a contract and you're responsible for making at least 80% of those rooms fill. We got 15 for the Friday and 30 for the Saturday and I am wondering if we'll need more. (My family is in Canada and his all over the US) Either way, if we don't have 36/45 rooms booked, we have to cover it up to the 36 rooms. If you have local guests, the 20 room courtesy block will probably do fine.

Guests will have to pay parking fees to stay here too. It's $10/day, but you may be able to ask for a reduced rate.

We've had a few miscommunications on things at the hotel and heard some negative reviews, but all in all we're very confident with using them. They're in a perfect location, the room for the ceremony is just right for the size of our wedding, and the room rates are pretty decent for right downtown.

It's $10/day, but you may be able to ask for a reduced rate. :) We've had a few miscommunications on things at the hotel and heard some negative reviews, but all in all we're very confident with using them. They're in a perfect location, the room for the ceremony is just right for the size of our wedding, and the room rates are pretty decent for right downtown.

I'm getting married at the Holiday Inn on Grand Island. Laura is awesome and walks you through every step. The prices were reasonable and we are able to have our cermony on site as well (they have a gazebo right on the water). Both of the rooms have the river as the backdrop and they gave me my rooms at $129.

Just went to a wedding at Hotel Lafayette last night. Had a blast, but was underwhelmed by the actual venue. We were in the Greenhouse room. It just felt very cramped. I kept getting hit in the head/back by servers trying to squeeze their way through too tiny of spaces. With how low the ceilings are it just felt very claustrophobic. The food (I had the filet mignon) was disappointing too. It was rare. And the poor people sitting at the table next to us didn't get food until we were long done eating ours.

I did really like the private patio that they had for guests. And the hotel itself when you walk in is gorgeous.
