Nut Allergies & Cake....What to do?

My one year mark is approaching and I wanted to book a bakery soon but my fiance suffers from nut allergies. I emailed one place on here that is quite popular with cake pricing and taste and asked about if possibly avoiding nuts. The lady emailed me back and stated that would not work because she use nuts in different cakes and supplies. On another bakery website I found, they wanted to charge extra to avoid nut contamination. I don't want to spend $600, 700 and more on cake for 200 people. Not sure what to do? Just inform the bakery and pray they try to limit some if any when working on our cake.

I wouldn't just hope for the best.  The last place you want to spend your wedding night is the ER.  If you don't want to pay a ton extra, the only thing I can think is to find a smaller cake just for him that would be nut free.  You could still do the cake cutting, just have his piece sitting out that you feed him.

I'm sorry it's making your search harder!

I'm sorry these bakeries aren't accommodating your FI's needs.  I would think that since it's a common and severe allergy, they'd make sure to offer options for their customers.

I second mrs.dilligaf's post.  If these bakeries are charging way too much to  be nut-free, I would ask FI, "Do you like cupcakes?"  Maybe make special cupcakes or just another cake as a groom's cake for him.  It would be a lot cheaper and can be a way to honor his tastes.

I agree with PPs... I was in a similar situation, as my Dad has a can't have wheat.  My MOH is just going to make him a gluten-free cake.  I would try to find some recipies and make him up a small cake.

Thank you ladies! Fiance is a no no about cupcakes, but the idea about the groom cake or alternate cake would work!
