Honua Kai in Maui & Westin Princeville in Kauai

Hi Ladies!

Fiance and I have decided on Hawaii for our honeymoon and we're really excited!!! We've decided on the following and I really wanted to get some input from those of you who have stayed in the following hotels and islands.

Maui --> for 7 nights and we're looking to stay at the Honua Kai Resort and Spa. The pictures and reviews i've seen so far are amazing! It's a condo type property with a full kitchen (which is something we really want in order to cut down cost a little bit). If anyone has been here I'd love to hear your opinions of the place! Also, what are some must do/see/eat places in Maui?!

Kauai --> for 7 nights and we're planning to stay in the North in Princeville at the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas. Again, the full kitchen is a plus! And the rooms look great! Reviews i've seen have been pretty great. Any opinions if you have stayed here? And any must go to places in Kauai?!?

Thank you so much in advance for all of your help! I'm so excited to plan and I can't wait till it's time to arrive in Hawaii!  Cool
Anniversary

  • Great choices :)

    Have fun!!
  • I stayed at the Westin Princeville a little less than a year after it opened. We had a one bedroom unit. I own several vacation ownership properties with Starwood (yes, this is a timeshare development, but I never went on a tour nor was I asked), and personally, this is one of the best ones in their portfolio. You have access to the St. Regis, which is nice, if you wanted to splurge on meals or at the spa. As the PP mentioned, you do have to take a shuttle or walk a little ways down to the beach and to the St. Regis, which is something we did not do. I ended up getting a really nasty cold while I was there from the flight, so I tried to just lay by the pool. There is a decent Safeway grocery store on the drive to the Westin (can't remember which town) and there is also a WalMart by the airport. The hotel provides you with dish soap and laundry detergent, which you'll need if you want to hike along the Na Pali Coast. It can be very muddy! I ended up falling several times, which I think was mostly due to me starting to get sick and I couldn't concentrate. One other thing we did was drive to Waimea Canyon. Since I live in the Grand Canyon state, I wasn't quite as impressed as i should have been, but it was still a gorgeous drive.

We are staying at Honua Kai for our wedding (ceremony at a private estate) and we have heard nothing but awesome reviews for this place.  They say to make sure if you are staying at the south side of the resort, check to see if construction from the Westins has started (though I doubt it as Maui's economy is still in the pits).
