Favourite Vegas hotel?

My intended European honeymoon plans fell through :(

So we decided to try the next best thing - Vegas :D But seriously, we want great food, great shopping and fun things to do and we thought Vegas would be a good place for all these things. Plus, it's almost LIKE you're in Paris, Greece and Italy anyway, right? ;)

There are just so many choices of what seem to be great places to stay, so I'd like to know what YOUR favourite hotels were and any tips/recommendations you may have?

Thanks!

Re: Favourite Vegas hotel?

  • We've stayed at MGM Grand and the Mirage and loved both. We loved the lazy river at MGM and the waterfalls in the pools at the Mirage and both had beautiful rooms. We always choose our hotel in Vegas based on the rooms and the pools since you can visit any of the other hotel's casinos, restaurants, and night life.

Hotels we wouldn't stay in are Excalibur, Caesars, Paris, New York New York, Harrahs, Luxor, Tropicana, and Circus Circus.

Other hotels that look amazing and we'd like to try on future trips are Mandalay, Venetian, Palazzo, Hard Rock, Wynn and Encore, and Planet Hollywood.
  • We've stayed Ballys, Flamingo Hilton, Bellagio, Luxor, MGM & Planet Hollywood. Planet Hollywood was our fave!

  • We are staying at the MGM Grand Signature for a few nights when we get married and it looks amazing and gets great reviews, we are then driving over to California for our honeymoon and we will come back to Vegas for one night and we are staying at The Trump which is a non-gaming hotel and also looks great and has great deals when you can find them....check trip advisor. There are so many great hotels in Vegas so I would read the reviews and find one that has the things you like.

I have stayed at: Luxor, El cortez, Stratosphere, Paris, Rumor, and Hard Rock

I would HIGHLY recommend Paris. It's my favorite. Very romantic, too, IMO.

I am staying at the Cosmopolitan in a few weeks and I've heard great things about that as well.

Based on friends' reviews, I would not recommend Excalibur or Circus Circus.

  • I've stayed at a ton of them, and for a honeymoon, I would recommend the Wynn or the Paris.  Good luck! (and hop over to the Vegas board if you have more Vegas-specific questions...the girls there are super nice and very helpful)
  • MIRAGE.
Stayed there several times, love it.
Last time, we booked air fare and hotel through MIRAGE website, and got two free tickets to any Circ d' Soleil show - chose KA at MGM and loved it.

Would not stay at MGM - too far down on one end of the strip.  Mirage is pretty much in the middle.
  • I've stayed at NY NY, Paris, Treasure Island (TI) and Palazzo.  Palazzo is by far our favorite.  Love the location, the rooms are all suites, we got  a fantastic view of the strip when we told the front desk we were celebrating my brother's 21st, there's great shopping/restaurant options in the Palazzo and connected Venetian, good shows on-site (Jersey Boys and Blue Man Group.)  I love their pool complex.  Can't recommend them enough!  I'd like to try the Cosmopolitan, but I'll likely always stay at the Palazzo.

  • We stayed at MGM Grand. The bed was amazing! I slept like a baby! It's on the end of the strip, so if you want to get away from the action for a bit you can. I would stay at the MGM again if we go back! However, I also want to try out Planet Hollywood, and it's more centrally located on the strip.
  • Wow guys, thanks for all the great recommendations! I am finding the hotels' actual websites a bit unhelpful so am relying on TripAdvisor and personal recommendations such as yours. There seems to be a large choice of nice hotels so that makes it both easier and harder! I am zoning in on Palazzo, MGM, Planet Hollywood and Paris.

Thanks so much for your recs! Much appreciated.  :)

  • I've stayed at Flamingo, MGM Grand, and the Alexis Park (which is off the strip and has no casino). MGM was fun but HUGE! I liked visiting it more than staying there b/c it was such a long walk just to get back to your room. The Flamingo was pretty nice. I loved the pool area! We visited all the hotels and I liked Paris, The Bellagio, and the Mirage, but again, I don't know what the rooms are like.

  • Hands down I would choose the palazzo. I stayed there last year and it is amazing and in a perfect location. They have the top rated spa too!
  • The Venitian is amazing.  Very luxurious and romantic.  We stayed there the last time we were in Vegas and got a deal for Phantom of the Opera tickets with our room too, which is an amazing show BTW.

I've stayed at the Excalibur, but that's definitely not somewhere I would ever consider for a HM (although it's an okay option if you are looking to do Vegas on the cheap).  I've also stayed at the Rio, but it wasn't that nice and it's across the freeway.  The other place that I like is TI...the rooms are nice and it's a great location, but it doesn't have the same 'romance' like the Venetian does.

  • We have stayed at Encore, Signature at MGM Vdara and Excalibur .. Vdara is great if you want to get a little distance from the casino and be able to enjoy.. but it is still right next to Bellagio and Aria within a couple of minutes and its nice and close to everything..
Signature was nice and so was Encore.. Encore still my favourite, though it took a little while to get any where from there...

    Have a  good trip!

  • Stay away from Excaliber and Circus Circus.  Both cater to families with children.  When we were last at each, most of the children were either obnoxious or crying or both.

I enjoyed New York New York and Bellagio.

  • Hey there are so many nice hotels in Vegas!  My fiance is a professional poker player so I am pretty familiar with the strip.  I recommend either the Wynn, Encore, Palazzo and Aria at City Center.  There are a lot of nice shops at City Center and Fashion Show mall (across from the Wynn/Encore) is also a great place to shop!  When are you going to Vegas?

    Thanks again everyone!

Lindsay, we will be going in August - yes I know, it will be extremely hot! But my best friend is getting married in August (20th) in NY and we will go right after. We don't live in the States so it's a bit expensive to come back home and go when it's cooler, so we are doing everything in one trip.

I am really loving the Palazzo right now - I feel like it's a great mix of a variety of restaurants, romance, and proximity to great shopping!

  • I have been and stayed at the Palazzo... very similar to The Venetian... as you can see both are popular.  The North strip area is where you'll find these resorts, along with the Wynn.

Have you ever used Hotwire before?  You can get some really good deals for 5* in Vegas if you book through hotwire.  Of course, you won't know what you get til you book it.... so with your honeymoon you'd have to take it into consideration.  You can google and find lots of forums that will help you narrow down what hotel you'll get based on the amenities listed though, so the risk is limited (esp. if you're going with 5 star!)

Anyways, that's my little piece.  Since it's your honeymoon...go for a 5 star... it's an amazing experience and those resorts are like a city within a city!
  • We are staying 3 nights at the MGM Grand and 3 nights at the Bellagio. We wanted to be at different parts of the strip and with our honeymoon in July, we didn't want to have too far to walk in the extreme heat to explore other casinos. I have stayed at the MGM Grand before and it is okay, but not my favorite. I am super excited to try the Bellagio because I have heard nothing but good things about it. I cannot wait!
