Cozumel as a honeymoon destination

My FI found a great-looking all-inclusive in Cozumel.
It's the Aura Cozumel, and we would be going in late September. We like the smaller size and good reviews on the food.
Has anyone done a vacation or honeymoon there? Is it awesome? Even if you're not a scuba diver?
We have been looking forever and struggling to find something exciting within our budget. I just need a little push to go through with it!

Re: Cozumel as a honeymoon destination

  • Ive spoken with a few diffrent travel agents & they all told me the same thing. Mexico isnt a safe place to go right now. If you do go stay only at the resort & not a foot of the property. That alone would me me not relaxed & thats what your honeymoon should be.

Look into it before you book to be safe.

  • I disagree with this.  Cozumel and Mayan Riviera are safe it's Cabo and Acapulo areas that are not safe.  I've looked into the Aura and it looks amazing!  I am seriously considering it too
  • My co-worker honeymooned in Cozumel 2 yrs ago & loved it. Last week we went online to view pics b/c I wanted to see it (since I'm in planning my own honeymoon mode).

Cozumel is an island - that fact alone should set it apart from other Mexican destinations. The pics I saw looked beautiful. First off the satelite shot on Google maps was gorgeous. Plus crystal clear BLUE water & white sands.

They rented scooters of some sort & drove to other parts of the island. I dont know where they stayed but they loved it. Their resort was on the west side of the island, facing Playa Del Carmen (which isa town across the ocean on Mexico's - mainland).

Visit www.tripadvisor.com and read reviews from people who have actually stayed in the locale & hotel you are interested in. Some peeps will post pics also.

    Best wishes... Smile

</div><div>Completely disregard this false statement.  I live in Mexico and can assure you that the beach areas are perfectly safe for tourists.  Certainly safer than any mid-sized American city.  </div><div>

  • My fiance and I are actually booked to honeymoon at the Aura this April. We've been to Mexico before (Mayan Riviera) and it was fantastic, we never felt unsafe. We loved the small size of the Aura and I have read every single review on Tripadvisor. We are throughly looking forward to our honeymoon there.

My friend went to Cozumel on vacation a few years ago and told me how much fun it was and all the things to do off the resort and she said they always felt safe. As pp said, it's an island, so it's a little more remote, which I think changes the atmosphere to a little more laid back.
