Puerto Rico anyone?

I just found out that our HM is going to be in San Juan, PR. We're using my parents time share. Has anyone been there? What are some good things to do and great restaraunts? Any good tips-is the water safe to drink?

Re: Puerto Rico anyone?

  • I got engaged in Puerto Rico!!!   It was my second time there - I loved it.... I'm drawing a blank on the names of where we ate.... Which is too bad - b/c they were good...One was RIGHT On the beach... part of a hotel, and you literally sat on the sand. The other place had Flamenco dancers!!! Both were great.Sorry I'm drawing a blank on the names - but you could try goodling. There is also a rain forest - never been there - but if you are looking for an excursion type of activity.... as well as the Captain Morgan factory (also never been there etc.) Old San Juan is fun to walk around in and full of shops and good restaurants etc.I love PR b/c the weather is always good! Spend a lot of time at pools or beaches just relaxing!and yes - the water is fine.

  • Hello, my fiance and i visited San Juan in May.  We stayed at the Marriott Stellaris Casino.  It was very nice.  Most of the best restaurants we went to were in Old San Juan.  I highly recommend Aguaviva & Dragonfly.  We also at ate McCormicks and Schmidts - which was excellent.  I wasn't a fan of the restaurants in the Condado Beach area.
  • I stayed at the Marriott as well!!!!!

  • There is the BACARDI Factory and El Yunque which is the rainforest.  Water is fine to drink, but i would stick to bottle just to be safe.
  • I got engaged in PR too!  Loved it there.  We stayed at the Caribe Hilton.  check out www.puertoricodaytrips.com for lots of great suggestions on things to do.  One of our absolute highlights was an excursion with East Island Adventures out to Vieques to swim in the bioluminescent bay.  A must do!!
  • Thanks! These are all great tips-I'm so excited now!!

The water is so safe to drink in any part of Puerto Rico, don't be scare.  I drank it for 33 years :) and everytime that I go back.
  • I can also recommend East Island Adventures. I went on a day trip with them to Culebra and Culebrita - both beautiful spots with amazing snorkeling. It's pretty easy to drive if you rent a car, and there is lots to see on a trip across the island. In one day, we went to Camuy Cave park, visited the Arecibo Observatory, saw some Taino ball courts, and ended the day in Isabela with a horseback ride on the beach. El Junque is also worth a day and has some nice hikes. We didn't go to Vieques, but instead went to Laguna Grande, another bioluminecent bay closer to San Juan. We kayaked at night through a mangrove forest full of iguanas and then ended up in the lagoon, just as a light rainshower moved through. The rain made the water glow, and it was pretty spectacular.I don't know any specific restaurants, but for food, mofongo is a popular local dish made from plaintains. It's served in a lot of places. Snapper is also prevalent and fresh, if you like seafood.  As far as I know, the water should be safe to drink, because they follow the same drinking water standards as the US.  Puerto Rico is a great place to visit and it's so easy to travel there. Enjoy your trip!
