Does anyone know anything about puerto plata in the Diminican Republic?

    I went in May 2009 to the Allegro in Puerto Plata and didn't like it much. The beach was closed for two days and the food was terrible. Also the resorts are all in compounds and it's an extremely poor area outside the resort.  The resort was overrun with locals the first weekend which coniced with May day 2008.  Airport was a mess and undergoing rennovations.
