Over-water bungalow/villa?

FI and I are just beginning to think about where to go for the honeymoon and I can't get the idea of an over-water bungalow out of my head. It just sounds so freakin' romantic to be able to hear the waves below you and jump out your front door into the water. Plus it sounds more intimate. However... I keep thinking that we're going to end up paying to much for something that sounds a lot cooler than it actually is. Does anyone have any advise? TIA!

Re: Over-water bungalow/villa?

  • Hi~I was thinking the same thing.  So we starting looking into Australia and Fiji (over-water bungalow).  However, when all was said and done the over-water bungalows were sooooo expensive.  I could never justify spending all that money on them.  They look beautiful but there are so many other things to spend that money on.  We also looked into Tahiti and found the same thing. (We decided on the Greek Islands).  Maybe you can find somewhere that has them cheaper.  Good luck! :)
  • The overwater bungalows are definitely expensive, but there are some options out there. There are a couple hotels in Tahiti (Moorea and Bora Bora) that are more "moderate" and still very beautiful. What I'm going to do is go to Tahiti (stay at regular room), and then a couple nights at garden bungalow in Moorea, and then a couple nights at the overwater bungalow in Bora Bora. I'm spending a total of 10 nights, but I offset the high cost by staying in the regular/less exp hotel rooms in Tahiti and Moorea. HTH!
  • Try this thread, starwood was having some deals on Tahiti and Bora Bora, I think you have to book by the end of Sept.  http://hawaii-exclusive.destinations.starwoodhotels.com/hawaii50/?EM=DM_TN11784_HAWAIISUMMER
  • I did the same thing as msaputra planned to. I just got back from the best trip ever in July. I have the details in my bio.Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.OWB are definitely very pricey, but SO worth it. I loved that room.
  • We wanted a overwater bungalow...our prob is that the only real places that have it are tahiti and borabora which are amazing...BUT the take like two to get there so unless your taking a 2 week hm...iits not worth it...but let me know if u find somewhere closer with good prices..that would be awesome!
