Reviews? Sahara Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

Has anyone stayed here? Is it a nice hotel? FI and I are hoping to spend on the lower end for a hotel and have more money for fun. We've been thinking of the Riviera, Excalibur, or Sahara. TIA!

Re: Reviews? Sahara Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

  • I have stayed at the Sahara for Business and it was fine.  For my honeymoon I wouldn't stay here.  Being further south on the strip is much more fun and less time consuming.  The strip is about 5 miles long and the Sahara is on the furthest North end. You will find amazing deals at Planet Hollywood. About $69.00 a night and sometimes free things like 2 for one buffet (amazing) and other perks.  Vegas is so cheap right now. Even the Wynn which goes for more than $200 a night you can get for around $100.00.  If you stay at certain MGM hotels you can get discounted tickets to Cirque Shows with great seats.  So do your research. You can get amazing deals right now for Vegas.  Good Luck
  • I would check out the Flamingo..its usually less expensive then other hotels around it.  Its a little outdated but nicer than Sahara, Rivera, or Stratosphere IMO. Its in a nice location on the strip.  As pp said, if you stay off the strip you're constantly going to be shelling out money for cab rides back and forth.
  • I would stay away from the Excalibur, it's dated, the Flamingo, it's dated and not sure about the Stratosphere but I'm pretty sure that it's dated too.  Trying to think of a moderately priced hotel in Vegas on the strip... so forget about the Paris, the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, the Venician, the Wynn. How about the MGM?  That's older but may still be maintained b/c they have fights there still sometimes (I think).  I think that they still maintain the Luxor to a decent level.  It's right next door to the Excalibur down on the end opposite from the Wynn, Stratosphere, etc. The shopping area of the Sahara, down on the lower level, looks well-maintained, not sure about the rooms.  Never even heard of the Riviera.  Is that even on the strip? I've never stayed off the strip but you might also consider staying off the strip for even more bang for your buck.
  • I have been to Vegas a few times, I've stayed in Bally's, New York New York and the Mirage. When are you planning on going? I would keep checking on what deals you can find. The Sahara is rather old. I would try to stay somewhere a little closer to the action- TI, Mirage, Flamingo, the new Trump International is supposed to be nice and their prices aren't too bad right now. Even some hotels on the south strip aren't bad either: MGM Grand, Luxor, New York New York. Just keep looking- the prices are always changing and you will find something good.
