SO BROKE!

So we're trying to book our honeymoon...and we're broke. we're doing a honeymoon registry but i wanted to see if anyone could recommend some budget friendly, nice, places. We're thinking Mexico since its so close by. any ideas?

Re: SO BROKE!

  • What about doing a more affordable weekend getaway somewhere nearby and then taking a big trip at your one year anniversary or some other time when you can afford it more easily? I don't think you'll truly enjoy your honeymoon if you're stressing over the money and feeling guilty about spending the money. Good luck. :-)
  • We were in the same boat.  We ended up booking 5 days in Vegas for $1k.  Ended up being about the same amount if we were to stay nearby.  And it's at a 5 star hotel.
  • You have OVER A YEAR before your wedding - surely you can wait to book and pay.
  • I want to let you know that I totally feel you on this one. We got married on May and throughout our year engagement we had many different plans that we were going to do for our honeymoon. BUt as the year went by the budget got more limited and more limited. Honestly this year has been so tight for us (small business  owners) there, even with a year to plan there was no ability to save at all. So we had planned to go to my parents 2nd home in Nantucket for a week for our honeymoon, well after we looked into flights and renting a car it was around $2000 so we realized that was not going to work. We ended up going online and finding a GREAT rate at the Valentin Imperial in Riviera Maya, Mexico for 7 days with airfare from Florida and All Inclusive it was less than $1500 (we used wedding money). While we were there we just took full advantage of the resort and literally never left (we would of loved to but we financially could not) It was a great way to still get a honeymoon, maybe not what we had orgionally planned but it was GORGEOUS and awesome! Its what you make of it. I'll get my trip to Italy for our 20th Anniversary or something.

  • you must plan on paying for your HM regardless of the registry as you don't know how much will be contributed. work out a budget, save for a few months and see where you are. if you can't afford it then you can't afford it. it's a vacation-not a necessity. if you can't afford what you want to do save it for an anniversary vacation and just book something local and inexpensive for after the wedding.

  • I hear that there are tons of great and inexpensive locations in Mexico.  Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cabo San Lucas.  Sign up on Travelzoo.com and check out the deals.
  • I'm kinda in the same boat. I don't have any ideas on where to go but I found this thing called Go Cards you can look them up at smartdestinations.com. You pay like $150 for 3-5 days and you get into a bunch of places for free. I'm doing my honeymoon at different theme parks in Southern California, like 6 flags, and universal studios and I'm saving loads of money. They have them for a couple different cities. I don't know if it helps but you should def. check them out hun :)
  • I don't know where you are located but there are some great deals to Mexico right now on a variety of sites. Also, Vegas can be done cost effectively.
  • Thank you everyone-I'll let you know if i come across anything worth sharing! :)
