European Honeymoon

Has anyone taken a European Honeymoon that included places like London, Rome, Paris, Lucerne? I'm wondering where I should start looking (TA or on my own) and if I should go on a group tour or on our own. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: European Honeymoon

  • We went to Europe, but not to those cities.  We didn't use a travel agent, no issues booking it on our own.  I wouldn't do a tour for my honeymoon.  Not very romantic!

  • I've been to all but Lucerne (out of those places) and I've never used a TA for any European trip. You can find great prices on the internet and a lot of small hotels include breakfast.  I would get some travel books like Lonely Planet and start there. I would also recommend Florence over Rome- it's smaller and IMO, prettier with better food!
  • Oh, and I don't think you need to go with a tour group but you could look into day tours for places that are hard to get to, like Stonehenge or something like that. Depends on how much romance you want and how much sightseeing you want to do.
  • If you are sticking to the big cities, then you don't really need a travel agent, but to find the secluded, romantic villages I would definitely consult a travel agent. They can make suggestions according to suit your budget - and also, maybe you could explore one country more fully - rather than spending too much time traveling between them. Then you have a reason to go back! I recommend Hilary at WAC Travel - they have some great deals on their 'luxury for less' website: http://www.tortribe.com - Plus she is english so knows Europe really well...
  • I personally hate group tours and book online for my travels. I live in London, but haven't been to the other cites. I can give you recs for places in and around London. You can page me on Philadelphia's board.
  • If you decide on a tour, do Gate 1- they are wonderful and reasonably priced!
  • I've been to Europe on personal travel. Recommend booking on your own or through travel agent but not doing a tour (they move quickly and you never know what kind of people will be on the tour). I can vouch for Paris for romance, London for night life and history, Florence for art and romance, and Greece for amazing beaches.
  • I think it would be great to shop both options (TA or on your own) and see which is the best deal. In my opinion I find group tours too restricting. I think it would be a lot more fun to explore on your own, at your own pace and on your own time.
