Planning a Maui trip over Spring Break, any recs?

I got a really good hotel deal emailed to me the other day so we decided to head to Maui over my Spring Break in March. I've been to Oahu before, but not Maui, and don't know much about it. We'll be staying at the Westin Kaanapali Villas and will be renting a car. We'll be there for 5 nights. I definitely want plenty of lounge time by the beach, but we'll also want to snorkel (preferably somewhere we can swim to since I get sea sick) and drive around and explore. Are there any awesome day trips that we shouldn't miss? Like, we drove to the North Shore while we were in Oahu and that was awesome... I'm looking for cool ideas like that.TIA!

  • I think a drive out to the winery is beautiful, and it's cheap!  Also, I really enjoyed the drive to and up Haleakala to our zipline location.  If you want, take a look at my Maui Honeymoon Review in the Vendor Review section in my bio link below.  I reviewed all the restaurants we went to, car rental company, etc.

  • For some great snorkeling that requires no boating, I suggest both Kapalua Beach and Honolua Bay. Honolua Bay has awesome snorkeling a little further out along the sides of the bay - it's fed by a fresh water spring at shore, so it's murky there. I'd also recommend taking a hike along the Waihe'e Ridge Trail - it was gorgeous! If you take the road up passed Kapalua around the head of Maui, you can stop off at the blowhole and the Olivine Pools. Most of our guests said they enjoyed that trip even more than the road to Hana.
  • FI & I just stayed at the Westin Villas in July! Honestly, there is GREAT snorkeling at the beach right behind the villas! You can also take the shuttle from the WV down to the Sheraton to snorkel at Black Rock. It's definitely more crowded down there, but the snorkeling was fair. We also had good luck in South Maui at La Perouse Bay and Ahihi Cove. Secret Cove Beach is an incredible little gem to just lay around and enjoy each other's company. In West Maui, we also liked Honolua Bay, though I know it's not always suitable conditions for swimming/snorkeling. It was perfect in the summer. This was the only place I saw a sea turtle. As for cool day trips, we did Haleakala Crater for sunrise one morning, the Road to Hana another, then a West Maui day and a South Maui day. We did surfing lessons with Goofy Foot (so much fun!) and a sunset champagne cruise with Scotch Mist Cruises (highly recommended- no more than 12 passengers on the boat.) If you haven't already, pick up Maui Revealed- great info there.

  • I am selling Maui Revealed and The Big Island Revealed if anyone is interested. I also have a Road to Hana cd and map. Will take best offer. Email me at dianegutkowski at yahoo dot com.
  • We did the road to hana and drove to haleakala. We also did snuba/snorkeling and it was amazing! It is a 1 hour boat ride though. I get motion sickness, too but I just had on sea bands, and I was good to go. We went just off the coast of Molokini and went to a place called "Turtle Town" and snorkeled with a bunch of turtles.
