Maui: Hyatt or Westin?

It looks like it's between the two for our Maui stay. . . both seem to have the same amount of good/bad reviews. any tips?

Re: Maui: Hyatt or Westin?

  • I don't think you can go wrong with either.  I didn't stay at either of those, but I can just tell you that walking along the path by the Westin, we were really impressed with their grounds.  It was beautiful, and the shortest walk to dining at Whaler's Village (Hula Grill). Just based on what we saw from the outside and grounds, I would go for the Westin.  That area of land made one of the biggest impressions on me....it's one oof my more vivid memories (then again, it was a beautiful night, perfect for a walk).
  • Where did you stay? I'd love to do the 4 Seasons or Ritz, but that's way out of our budget. . .
  • The Westin is beautiful...BUT...lots of families w/ kids.  Not sure I would recommend it for a honeymoon for that reason -- just not much of a romantic vibe.  Have you considered the Sheraton?  We had breakfast there one morning and it seemed to cater more to couples.  I've also heard good things about the Hyatt but haven't visited personally. HTH.
  • Just got back from the Westin in Maui and we loved it. It's a gorgeous property, right on the beach, great food - we had a fantastic time. Highly recommend.

  • Hmm. . . our new favorite option is the Fairmont, but I'm not sure we can afford that. It seems like everyone is kind of split between Westin and Hyatt!
  • We just stayed at the Hyatt in September for our honeymoon and LOVED it!! During our stay we probably only saw three kids, the rest were all couples.  The grounds are beyond beautiful and the food was phenominal.  We are already planning a trip back next year!  I HIGHLY recommend the Hyatt!
  • To answer your question about where we stayed - we stayed at Kaanapali Beach Club aka the big pink hotel. I think it's mostly condo/timeshare.  I would recommend it though, I just don't know if you can call up and book there.  Our reservations were booked as a gift from  MIL (timeshare).
  • We stayed at the Hyatt and loved it! Everyone is super nice and there were not a whole lot of kids. Make sure if you decide to go with the Hyatt you book the package with the free breakfast! The buffet is delicious but a little pricey.
