Orlando Honeymoons

Hi Ladies!FI and I want to head south to Orlando, FL for our honeymoon.  Anyone have any recommendations for places to stay?  things/places to avoid?  things besides the theme parks to do?  I am open to all suggestions!  TIA!!

Re: Orlando Honeymoons

  • Be prepared to sit in a lot of traffic and bring lots of change for toll roads (Orlando is full of them!)  Besides the theme parks, Orlando has a number of dinner theater shows - I believe there's a Medieval Times, a Pirate's Dinner Theater, and possibly a murder mystery one as well.  There's tons of shopping.  The Millenia Mall is huge, has a number of fantastic restaurants around it, and also has an Ikea store (always neat to explore!)That's about all I can help you with - even though I live only two hours away, I avoid Orlando like the plague.
  • International Drive or I Drive as it is called is neat to explore. The traffic can be crazy so I suggest visiting in the evenings or taking the IRide trolley up and down it. *has all kinds of restraunts and shops along the way*Lots of off beat things closer to downtown Orlando proper area. *Disney isn't actually in Orlando so that area is very touristy* I love the Fantasy of Flight Museum which is in Polk City I think. Very neat if you like History and Aviation. Millenia Mall is nice. Lots of outlet shopping and malls too. Mini golf galore, real golf, water sports, etc. Get an Orlando Magic card for deals and discounts. Hope this helps!
  • I live in Orlando  so have lots of recommendations. You can easily avoid traffic by staying at a resort on one of the Park properties (Portofino Bay at Universal and Swan/Dolphin at Disney are two that I'd say are Honeymoon-worthy. ) They have shuttles that will take you where you want to go (Parks, I-Drive, restaurants, etc.)  If you want to venture away from the parks try Florida Eco-Safaris- they have an awesome zipline course and also offer horseback riding and other cool stuff.  One of my other fave places to take out-of-towners (outside the theme parks) is Revolution Off-road. You can rent dune buggies and off-road vehicles thru the Florida wilderness, it is so much fun. If you do decide you don't mind driving, don't forget about Cocoa Beach or Daytona, you can visit either in about an hour's drive.... There is so much more than the theme eparks here. It is a great place for a honeymoon!
