Costa Rica

Has any one been to costa rica? If yes, where and would you suggest it for the honey moon?

Re: Costa Rica

  • The Springs Resort at Arenal and Tabacon are both amazing. Beautiful views, good food, great spa services, and amazing service. But whatever you do, avoid the Hilton Papagayo at all costs. It's awful.
  • I studied abroad there for the semester in college and traveled all over. I also recommend the Arenal area/Tabacon Hot Springs were amazing!! Although there exists other hot springs in the Arenal area (the name of the little town though is called La Fortuna as an FYI), the set up, ambiance of Tabacon is one to remember. Beach wise, there are numerous choices. The central and northern pacific coastal areas are the "developed" areas in terms of beaches. Although they're still a far cry from looking anything like Cancun's Hotel Zone, they do have more upscale hotels, bigger names, etc. I really loved Manuel Antonio as you have both gorgeous beach areas and the national park. Guanacaste is more in the northern part of the country and features more dry, terrain (less green). On the other hand, if you and your fiance prefer more laid back places, not as bought up and developed, Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side is a cool place as well. There are a ton of towns on the Caribbean side to stay at, but Puerto Viejo seems to attract the most (but without being overly crowded). It still retains its very humble roots, horses are still being paraded down the street. When I was there four years ago, there was only one paved road. Although I liked the Pacific beach areas more, I did appreciate Puerto Viejo as it could be called undisturbed beauty, and it was like having a little bit of Jamaica right in Spanish speaking Costa Rica (when they were constructing the rail road back at the end of the 19th century they brought in a ton of Jamaica laborers, many stayed so Bob Marley and dreds are a familiar sight). Also, the central valley (where San Jose the capitol is located, and where you might fly into is) is nice. There are a ton of coffee plantations to tour, and butterfly farms. Just as an FYI, the Marriott in the Central Valley is amazing! The views are gorgeous and the building is meant to resemble a former coffee hacienda.I loved Costa Rica a ton and could talk a lot more so please feel free to email me if you have any other questions!scarlettjules85@yahoo.com.

  • We went from June 16-29 (the green season).  We stayed in Osa (drake bay area) for a week and loved it. It was really secluded and I felt really safe.  Fell asleep to the ocean waves, hiked to a private beach...amazing. We stayed at Jinetes de Osa We stayed a week in Arenal.  We stayed it Montana de fuego.  Private cabins. Great weather and it was nice as it was very spa like. We also spent one night at Villa Blanca (los angeles cloud forest).   I cannot wait to go back.  I have family that visit Manual Antonio.
  • i went to costa rica in june 2007 and i absolutely recommend it! although if your looking for blue water and white sand, its not the place to go. i went to osa peninsul at el remanso lodge, absolutely amazing and really nice accomodation. all the food was included and really good too. howler monkeys wake you up in the middle of the night but its really exciting. theres a nice secluded beach, but the water might be too rough to swim, but it still looked nice, waterfalls everywhere, and different kinds of monkeys just sitting in the trees. lots of wildlife, but then again it is part of the rainforest. hope this helps!
