Send me your Hawaiian recs!!!

Hi! We're looking into going to HI for our Aug '10 hm...we def dont need to stay at the Ritz but def want a somewhat nice hotel since it is our HM. We are planning 2 weeks and either want to do 2 islands (Kauai and Maui) or 3 (add Oahu)...weve been quoted a little under $5K for the 2 of us and def dont want to go over that...These are the hotels included in our package so far... Kaanapali Beach Resort in Maui Sheraton Kauai Resort in Kauai OR Hilton Kauai Beach Resort in Kauai Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel in Oahu OR Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach in Oahu Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated! THX! :)

Re: Send me your Hawaiian recs!!!

  • We stayed at the Aston Kaanapali shores and it was near the Kaanapali Beach Resort. Both condos are situated on the best beach in Maui. Close to shopping, LaHaina and there's lot to do.We also went to The Big Island and did 1 week on each island. Depending on where you are traveling from (we flew from the East Coast, which kills a day on both ends for travel). So spending 1 week on each island was perfect.
  • We honeymooned at the Royal Lahaina on Kaanapali. It was really nice, but didn't break the bank. And they gave us a free upgrade to a room with a nicer view. The beach was really quiet and not crowded which was nice for that whole romantic thing. ;) I stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki a while ago and it's really nice too. The location is good for all the sightseeing on Oahu and there are a lot of different restaurants within the hotel. There will be a fair number of kids there, but I didn't see any problems when I was there last.
  • We stayed at the Outrigger on the Beach in Oahu and thought it was nice - it wasn't really my style though. I don't really like being centred in the tourist district.
  • The Hilton Hawaiian Village is a huge hotel and I loved it! We are going on our HM in January and we got the best deal staying at both Marriots for our trip to Oahu and Kauai. For ten days its like 4700 total.
  • I want to say there are 2 Outriggers in the Waikiki area.  We stayed at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, which was a bit further down from the main tourist area.  It was about a 10-15 minute walk down the main street to get to where all the action was, and we kind of liked being a little ways away from all the hustle & bustle.  It was a good hotel, but nothing that was over-the-top romantic or anything.  We barely spent any time at the hotel except to sleep, so this didn't bother us.
  • I stayed at the Sheraton Kauai several years ago.  I think the ocean view rooms are nice (avoid the garden view, if you can).  I did not have a good experience at the Hilton Kauai, but I think I went in with too high of expectations.

  • We just got back from our honeymoon a month ago. We also did 3 islands Oahu(3nights), Kauai(3 nights) and Maui (4nights). We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian village in Oahu, it was great, just very big, so if you are looking for someplace small and quiet, its def. not it.We had a part-oceanview, which was great, we faced diammond head and could watch the sunrise. In Kauai we stayed at the Sheraton, it was are fav. hotel of all! We booked a gardenview and got upgraded to oceanview. The room and the view was so unbelievable.! It was so quiet and peaceful, you almost felt like you were the only people there. The pool was small though. In Maui we stayed at the Westin, the room wasn't anything special for what we paid for it. The pool there is awesome! I heard the Hyatt in Kaanapali is the best. HTH, sorry I typed a lot Meghan
  • We just got back from Maui and Kauai a few weeks ago (stayed in the Ritz in Kapalua, Maui and the Grand Hyatt in Kauai)I have been to Oahu before and definitely enjoyed Kauai and Maui more, Maui has more to do, and better restaurants and Kauai is more beautiful. I just thought Oahu was a little too touristy for my taste and not as beautiful as the other two (I went on a previous trip with family) Pearl Harbor is pretty cool though if you are into history, etc.Kaanapali Beach Resort looked really nice and is in a decent area. I would definitely rent a car on both islands and get out and explore. We did the road to Hana (and actually did the scary part from Kapalua to Paaia and it was so much fun, but a little scary at times), we went hiking around the crater and skipped the bike trip, heard pretty mixed reviews because it is typically pretty cloudy. We went to Mamas Fish House and it was ok, we actually loved loved loved Pineapple Grill in Kapalua near the Ritz (try the lobster ravioli, the soup and the fish is fresh, and don't skip the pineapple upside down cake) At Kanapali Beach in Maui is where there are a bunch of resorts and there is Black Rock at the end of the beach there. You have to go snorkeling over there, we saw 3 huge turtles there a few feet of shore, so awesome. There are two sheratons I think in Kapaa and Poipu beachPoipu is a great beach but I think it seemed a little warmer and less windy in the Kapaa area... there was definitely a lot more rain on the North Side of the island, but it is worth a trek up there. Check out Tunnels beach and on the way you will get some great vistas. We did a lot of hiking in Kauai, went on a Sunset Cruise with Holo Holo Charters which I would highly recommend and went on a helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian which was fantastic.Hope this helps
