Italy Tours

We are looking at taking a tour of Italy for our HM, we aregetting married March 6th but have a pretty busy month afterwards, so we would probably be looking at leaving very end of March or beginning of April.  We are looking for the 7-10 day tour of Rome, Venice, and Florence type thing.  Does anyone have any recommendations of tours or companies to use?  We are looking for something affordable- not too extravagant, but decent hotel, etc.  Thanks!

Re: Italy Tours

  • It's not too romantic... ok it wasn't romantic at all, but a few years back my fiance and I went on a tour of Italy from Globus.  It is a group tour, and the other travelers were way above our age bracket (we are in our 20s, they are 55+) We are not big group travel people, but if I were planning our first trip to Italy again, I would probably do the same thing.  The tour began in Rome, and you go by tour bus to Pisa for a few ours then to Florence, then you go to Verona to Venice, then back to Rome.  They have little included tours in each plus some optional activities and free time.  We added some extra days in Rome and used those days to see more of Rome and visit Pompeii.  Globus' sister company Monograms offers independent tours, that may be more romantic for a honeymoon, but I have never tried it.
  • I have traveled with Contiki twice on group tours in Europe (not to Italy though).  They have a 9 day trip to Italy.  You travel with a group of people all aged 18-35.  The hotels aren't great but you get to see a lot.  It may not be ideal for a honeymoon though.  You do get free time in the cities, and you can choose what you do on the trips, so you don't need to stay with the group the whole time.  THeir parent company is Trafalgar, but that will have a huge age range (a lot of older travelers) but the hotels will be nicer.
I have also heard good things about planning trips from Europeandestinations.com
    Good luck!

  • Years ago, my sis & I did a tour of Europe through AESU, and they were good.  It was all 18-35 year olds, so it wasn't romantic and there were a lot of party people there, but it was a good, well-organized tour.  You can check out their tour list for your schedule here:  http://www.aesu.com/

  • When I went to Italy we stayed in a villa in Tuscany for a few days, which was breathtaking and believe it or not, cheaper than most hotels.  You have to see Rome- so I would stay in Rome for a few days, Florence for a few days, then get a villa in Tuscany (we were near Montepulciano) for as long as you can.  There are many villages nearby to see, and lots of wine tasting to do (if you like wine)!
