Florida Key Honeymoon- looking for hotel and activity suggestions!

My fiance and I have decided that we'd like to go to the Flordia keys on our honeymoon but so far that's all the further we've come. We have several ideas: Fly into Miami, rent a car and drive down the keys and fly back from Key West or just flying right to Key West and staying there.  We have no idea so all suggestions are welcome!

  • I think driving through the Keys is a beautiful drive.  Any of the options you have mentioned would work well.  Be aware that the drive from Miami to Key West is about 4 hours.

If you decide on Key West, check out the Cypress House.  We stayed there on a trip and loved it!  There is a happy hour every night with great food and an open full bar.  The breakfasts are fantastic and Dave the Innkeeper is great as is all of the staff.  We are heading back to Cypress house in a few months.

  • My bf and I were in Key West in early May last year and loved it!  It was great.  We were 25 and 28, just so you get an idea of who we are...  We stayed at Ocean Key Resort.  The hotel itself was beautiful and we ended up with an oceanside view.  The hotel is renovated time shares I think.  It was a little pricey, I think ~$400 a night.  We LOVED the pool - it had these great cabanas and poolside margarita/drink service which was awesome.  The area wasn't super large, but the location was unbelievable - right on the water at the end of Duval street (right where all the action is).

There were alot of smaller touristy type shops I wasn't really interested in, but there were some boutiques and a coach outlet down the road.  Overall, I don't think it was a great place to shop, and there aren't very many, if any, beaches on Key West.  Lots of really cool "island" type bars - most of the time, we ended up sleeping in, relaxing in our hotel, lying out by the pool, and then kind of bar hopping.  Sunsets are famoous in the keys and definitely a Do Not Miss.  We did that every night and had a couple of really nice dinners as well.

I've had family that vacationed in the Keys numerous times, and the tip they had was - if you only have a few days (like we did) get there, relax and enjoy it.  If you have the time, sometime in your life, do the drive and take a day or two to stop and see each island, as each one in the Keys has their own "style" and things they are known for.

HTH. By the way, I'm not a huge seafood person, but we had some VERY delish meals of very fresh seafood.  (and steak. and red wine. and dessert.  But I digress...) haha.  PM if I can help any more!  Safe travels!
