FI & I can't agree on honeymoon--Help!

So my fiance and I have very different opinions on what we want the honeymoon to be like. He wants a super small exclusive resort that has only about 50-60 total rooms/suites. His reason is that you get better service & amentities.
I would rather go to a large resort (i.e. Sandals, Secrets, etc) that has 300+ rooms. My reason is that I want plenty of bars/restaurants to go to. Being somewhere for 10 days and only have 2 or 3 restaurants will get old to me.

Can anyone suggest an ADULTS ONLY all inclusive resort that will be in the mid-range size? I'm trying to compromise and bring something that we both will agree on.

  • I usually just lurk... but I might have a great answer for you!
Fi and I went to Sandals Inn in Montego Bay.  The Inn is small, about 40 rooms I think, so you get a lot of personalized service, the staff start to recognize and learn your name, etc.
However, you also get unlimited access and transportation to 2, much larger, Sandals resorts in Montego Bay (about 15 minutes apart by bus).  Between the three places, there are plenty of restaurants, bars, activities, etc.  We stayed for a week, and felt like we didn't scratch the surface.
Bonus: The Inn is cheaper and quieter when you do want to get some relaxation.
  • My fiance and I are going to the Aura Cozumel Wydham Grand Bay in Cozumel. It's only 87 rooms, adults-only, all-inclusive. I have read every single review on tripadvisor and only a handful of people are tired of the food at the end of a week. They only have 2 restaurants, but they have no buffets, everything is a la carte, even breakfast, so you can always order something different everyday. They also offer reservations at a restaurant on their sister property, right next door.

Tip: if you book online use Orbitz and the promotion code 200ENTERAIN to save $200 off the total when booking the hotel and flight together. My fiance and I did this and are only spending $2200 with flights from Norfolk, VA and 7 nights in their solarium suite, which has a roof top lap pool. We can't wait to go!

  • Try Sandals,  Negril Jamaica.  My FI and I went there for a trip (where he proposed :)) It was a medium sized resort and you have all kinds of stuff you can do outside the resort too (river rafting, zip line, jet skii, etc.)
  • Are you only interested in all-inclusives? You could always book a small boutique resort and go into the towns to try the local restaurants for meals.

I agree my FI and I went to this Sandals also. But if you want something smaller, if we returned we stay at "The Rock House" in Negril.
If you get to Jamaica be sure to go to "Ricks Cafe" for the cliff divers and live reggae. Great place, great time, and great views.

This. That way you can explore the town and new/local restaurants rather than just hotel restaurants.

  • These are all great suggestions! I will look into them all!

One place I haven't done much research is Jamaica...we are going Sept. 6. Should I be concerned about hurricanes? We will of course get insurance...
  • If you're concerned about hurricanes you may want to think about the ABC group of islands since they're not in the hurricane belt (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao.) We got married 09/05/09 & went to Aruba & had unbelievable weather the whole time. We stayed at the Occidental & stayed in the Royal Club in a jr suite...they have multiple restaurants ( only 1 is a buffet & the cuisine changes nightly) The only thing is lunch is fairly the same daily, but we didnt mind. It's not adults only, but it's VERY honeymooner-centric. We saw one family with a child the entire time.

There are also great "off property" restaurants in Aruba, Madame Jeanettes & Papiamento. The island is completely safe so going outside the resort is not something to worry about.

I've also heard the Divi Resort is great too. I think that one might be a little smaller, but is also all inclusive.
  • I went to Sandals in Negril for my cousins wedding and the bartender got stabbed in front of us (on her wedding night) and the resort did nothing to compensate for what had happened that night, just rolled the bartender off the resort and pretended nothing happened. I would not recommend this place due to the employee fights.

  • Excellence Playa Mujeres!  It's a 5 star, all inclusive, adults only resort in Mexico.  Close enough to action and ancient Mayan ruins...but away from Cancun and seclded on Isla Mujeres.
  • Highly recommend the Secret Silversands in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
  • I 100% agree with Sbaillie, My Fi and I went to the Occidental in Aruba in May (Where he popped the question) and I could have stayed there forever. It is a big hotel, and there are some children, but honestly, there is so much to do there that you won't notice. Loved it.
