Hawaiian Islands & Hotel Recommendations

Hi Ladies...
We are considering Hawaii as our honeymoon destination and what to visit two island.  We have decided on Maui, however we are stuck on whether to go to Oahu or the Big Island of Hawaii?  Which one should we go to??  Also, which hotels do you ladies recommend on Maui, and/or Oahu and the Big Island?
Thanks!!

Re: Hawaiian Islands & Hotel Recommendations

  • I LOVE the Big Island - it's got 11 out of 13 of the world's climates, and is just so chilled out. We tend to stay in condos, not hotels, but check out the Big Island Revealed/Maui Revealed books for reviews:

I swear, these books are my Hawaiian bibles.
  • So glad you started this post!!  My fiancee and I have a Honeymoon Registry on MyRegistry.com, and now that we've had so many generous contributions come in already we can finally start making our hotel reservations for Hawaii (starting off in Maui) :)  I am going to stay tuned to this one because I could use some reccomendations as well...
  • We stayed at the Outrigger Main on Oahu at the recommendation of my aunt and uncle and had a fabulous stay.  The hotel is really nice, the beach in front of it is amazing, and the staff is super!
In Maui we stayed at a condo and it was fantastic!  We were on the top floor, they upgraded us to an ocean view, and we really enjoyed being able to make our own breakfast (fresh fruit from the farmer's market across the road) and sometimes our own lunch.  Super big money saver.  I'd recommend a condo for sure!
Maui is amazing!  There are so many things to do there!

  • Thanks so much (so far) ladies.  Can I ask, what is the best way to go about looking for a condo in Hawaii?  and what condo you rented in Maui?

    Thanks!
  • We rented a condo at Kapalua Villas, and LOVED it.

We would highly recommend, and it was comparable in price to a hotel. 2 stories, huge kitchen with modern appliances, 2 bathrooms, washer dryer, etc. Ocean view and a beautiful large porch to enjoy it on. It is on amazing grounds (a resort) with 3 beaches (not crowded at all!) and acces to the Ritx Carlton which is also on the property (we went to the pools there). There are also smaller pools at the condos, too. There are restaurants on the resort, but it's only a 10-15 min drive or so to Kaanapali/Lahaina and all of the shops and restaurants there. We loved being more secluded, but close enough.

We booked our condo/flight/car through Delta vacations, but I'm sure you can book Kapalua Villas through their own website or from another travel company. Make sure you book the "Gold" though- it's a little more expensive, but those are the ones that have been newly renovated and have things like modern appliances, flat screen tvs, etc.
