Honeymoon Discussions

More confused

I'm getting married in June and will be going on honeymoon maybe July or August. We would like to go to the Caribbean. I've narrowed it down to either St. Lucia, Jamaica or Antigua. But that is not set in stone. I don't want to go to Mexico and my FI doesn't want to go to the D.R.
What we want is, an all inclusive place that is not massive where it is half a mile to walk from the room or to a restaurant or the beach due to a hip problem. Also want a great beach with snorkling and descent nightly entertainment. We dont need a five star place, but somewhere clean and not to old. Also maybe somewhere close to a town to do other things and see some different culture. I look at one place, then I read reviews and it will seem perfect, but then people say "Red flags up every day so no swimming in the ocean" then I find another place and people say, the rooms were dirty or old with broken this or that.. The more I look the more confused I get. I know there probably is no perfect place so maybe I am been too fussy. Looking to spend $3000-$4000 total including flight.
So if anyone has any suggestions or privious experience with a place I would be less confused and greatfull for the input.
Thanks.

  • I've been to Jamaica and Antigua and would go back to either in a second.  Both have beautiful beaches and plenty to do outside the resorts.  In terms of budget, Jamaica is going to be the most affordable option just because of flight prices, in my experience.  In terms of things to do outside of the resort, Negril is a pretty good place.  I would look into Couples Resorts if you haven't already.  I've never stayed at one, but have yet to see a negative review.

As for Trip Advisor, you have to take those reviews with a grain of salt.  I mean, were the negative reviews complaining about legitimate issues that would totally ruin your vacation for you, or were they upset at little things?  How long ago were the negative reviews?  Has the resort upgraded, changed management, etc. since then?  Was it over the busy season like the winter holidays when they were likely overbooked?

  • We've been to St. Lucia (stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian *AMAZING*) and Jamaica (stayed at Sandals Negril *nice*). Out of those two I would recommend St. Lucia. Much nicer island. Jamaica is beautiful though.

  • Hi there - I would recommend talking with a travel agent.  We were in the same position as you before we talked with Nancy Finn of My Island Adventures.  She will spend time with you learning about what you want before suggesting places - and then work WITHIN your budget to get the best value for your $.  We ended up going to Sandal's Dunn's River - LOVED IT.  Send me a PM or e-mail if you want more info, just check out Nancy for sure.  She is wonderful to work with.
