Downtown Hartford

I posted this on The Nest but this board looks much more active! I'm coming to Hartford for a week (starting tomorrow) for work. We are staying right in the middle of downtown and I'm wondering what my husband & I can do for a week. Any suggestions? Looking for good food, drinks and sights. TripAdvisor isn't very helpful and some reviewers say Hartford is a ghost town! What?!

I would definitely check out City Steam for a brewery/ Pub and comedy show one night.. It is pretty funny and they are right in downtown on main street..
I believe it is Thursday- Sat for comedy shows only though..

Hartford definitely isn't a ghost town! I work in an office building in Hartford so I am very familiar....mostly with the restaurants! (I like to go out to eat). Aside from great food and drinks, there are some nice parks and definitely a lot of nightlife. Personally, I'm pretty low-key so I tend to avoid the "clubby" areas and go to bars/restaurants that have good live music at night. What do you and your husband like to do?

If you are interested in venturing over to the next city, West Hartford is even better! Great for shopping :)

We like to... drink. Hang out. I saw some bars had some trivia nights during the week with cheap food specials so we might check that out. I'm glad to hear it's not a ghost town! We are staying across from Bushnell in a Holiday Inn. It was the only hotel that wasn't booked this week. There's a conference for health care professionals so I guess it will be busy this week downtown!

If you're into drinking and good food, there's some amazing southern food and drinks at Black Eyed Sally's. The black bear saloon has great bands usually Thursday-Sunday. Plan B burger bar has upscale burgers and tons of fantastic beers on tap.  If you're looking for an upscale meal I suggest Trumbull Kitchen or Max Downtown. Both are amazingly delish! Feng Asian Bistro and Dish are also good. Check out the menus first on-line, since I'm a bit of a foodie and tend to like different things, but all of these places are a good mix of culinary delights.

Nothing in Ct is really far, so if you're interested and have transportation, the casino's are always worth a trip and have some great restaurants as well.

Honestly, if you walk around you will see tons of great bars too! Have fun!

Zula usually has some kind of live music and a good selection of wine/mixed drinks. Also check Theatreworks on Pearl St. they have shows and I believe they are having an art exhibit right now. Across the street is Bin 228 Wine and Panini Bar, they have delish panini's and wine. The Wadsworth Antheneum usually has something on First Thursdays (not sure if you will be here the first week of August). Good luck and have fun!

Another vote for drinks at Trumbull Kitchen, it's my favorite (and where my RD will be!) Agave has good mexican drinks and gauc, Pig's Eye Pub (on top of Black Eyed Sally's) is pretty typical dive-barish, but has a roof. And Bin 228 is a fun wine bar. All within walking distance of each other!

If you like Asian Fusion/Japanese Food/Sushi, I highly recommend Feng Asian Bistro. Their dragon roll is out of this world!
