October 2011 Honeymoon Ideas.... HELP!!

My FI will be returning home from a year in Kuwait about 1-2 weeks before our wedding next October.  We are just starting to think about HM destinations.  I'm sure he wont want to hop back on a plane for another 16 hour flight and being hurricane season, I don't want to risk the Carribean.  I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions.

Thanks!

  • What types of things do you like to do?  Do you want warm weather and beaches or no?  After being in Kuwait a while, the cool weather and fall leaves may be nice for your FI - maybe you could go up to VT or NH and stay in a quiet B&B.  The foliage will be beautiful, you can do some hiking, check out the little shops, etc.

  • I was thinking possibly New England or the Pocono Mountains of PA.  The foliage will be changing colors and the drive from MD would be very nice and romantic.

    Thanks!!
  • I just moved from New England, Litchfield Hills in Ct to be exact.  And I highly recommend going to the Berkshire Mountains in Mass....sooo gorgeous.  Actually, so is Litchfield Hills...it'll be prime leave season then and you will get such beautiful colors in your drive.  I'd definitely check the Berkshire Mountains...they have multiple towns you can stay in..and ranging from cabins, to hotels, to b&b's...I recommended someone to the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge, Mass!

    Good Luck and Best Wishes!!
  • I was also going to say New England. I love driving vacations, and lived in Massachusetts for 6 years. If he likes sports, add a trip to the baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown NY or basketball hall of fame in Springfiled MA.

Depending on the length of your honeymoon, consider driving all the way up to Maine, then working your way back down the coast through Boston. Check into the local B&B's or all service hotels, depending on the length of time you want to be in any one place. If he likes sports, see if you can get tickets for a NE Patriots game (they won't have the schedule available for next year until 2011).

You guys have to talk over what it is you specifically want to do. We love history, so Boston was a "must do", where everything is pretty much within walking distance. NYC is fun if you've never been there. Stay one night in Manhattan if you can afford it.

Also, sign up for emails from www.travelzoo.com. They'll send you weekly deals from all the travel sites, their "top 10" best deals for airfare or hotels.

    Good luck.

  • FI and I are going to Asheville in Oct. 2011. Like New England, there are several bed and breakfast options and the beautiful mountains. And there are some beautiful places in WV. The New River Gorge or Seneca Rocks are my two top recommendations if you want to come here. There are nice, romantic cabins and plenty to do from hiking to rock climbing and zip lining. Just my two cents.

  • We are now thinking the Poconos might be best.  looking at Cove Haven.  What about you?
