Debating between Hard Rock in DR, The Royal in Cancun, or somewhere else??

We are really debating between the Hard Rock in DR versus the Royal in Cancun however we probably wont book for another month or so, therefore we may end up going somewhere totally differnet.  I do know that we would prefer Mexico or DR over Jamacia for sure.  We want an AL with Adults only or couples only..yes we know Hard Rock isn't..which is a concern. 

Does anyone have any advice about either place or another place we should look into? Our budget is aruond 3-4k. We would prefer a place that we can have time to have romance but also have fun at the same time...so anything that has no night life and is geared towards total relaxation just isn't us right now. However we want a bit of both.

    The Royal in Cancun was fantastic.  We went a few years back (March 08?) and had no complaints - excellent rooms, great food and service.  We loved it.
