Hotel Reviews - Middletown/Cromwell? Or Old Saybrook??

Hey Everyone! -- I was wondering if anyone had advice or suggestions for blocking hotel rooms.  I'm getting married next October and the reception is at the Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station. Since there aren't any large hotels around East Haddam I'm debating where we should have guests stay?!

The Inn at Middletown is Beautiful, however, we aren't able to block ANY rooms there because our wedding is the same weekend as Wesleyan's homecoming :o\  Does anyone have any opinions on the Crowne Plaza vs The Courtyard Marriot? The other thought is The Comfort Inn at Old Saybrook?

Thanks!!!

Hi! I'm getting married at the Riverhouse too! We chose to block rooms at the Marriott & Residence Inn-- both in Rocky Hill.  That way there were two types of hotel options & they are right down the street from each other.  Both hotels are reasonably priced and very clean/ updated so I feel really good about them!

Are you planning on providing a shuttle for your guests?  We decided that we're going to, considering it'll be a 20+ min drive from the hotel.  Just another thing to think about.

    Good luck!!

I am also getting married at the Riverhouse next October, we booked our hotel rooms at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell, they have been really helpful so far! We Chose that hotel because they had a restaurant on site  (and a indoor pool bonus!) and we have a lot of out of town guest who don't know the area at all so it will be convenient for them!
The rooms for a wedding were about $100/ night which was cheaper than the Inn at Middletown.

We are also providing a shuttle to and from the reception.

We really didn't  have an opinion on the Crowne Plaza vs The Courtyard Marriott except that we just had to pick one and I literally liked the look of the Crowne plaza better, as stupid of a reason as that sounds!

I got married at the Riverhouse in July and we ended up doing a block of rooms at both Crowne Plaza and the Marriot. It is a little bit of a drive, but both are near the highway. We chose the two rather than Inn at Middletown because they were cheaper and the Old Saybrook hotels aren't quite as nice. We had a good experience with both hotels!
If it helps, there are also several bed and breakfasts in the East Haddam/Essex/Chester/Higganum area that you could always look into!

Good luck-and the Riverhouse is amazing!!! :)

We are getting married in Middletown on 11/5/11, and blocked rooms at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell because of the same situation (Wesleyan homecoming--grr!).  Our representative at the Crowne Plaza has been really helpful, though I can't really say much about the experience since we haven't stayed there yet.

We're also getting a shuttle for our guests, and we're using DATTCO.  FI is in charge of this, but I'm pretty sure it costs  about $900 or so to have them bring guests to the venue for the wedding and back to the hotel after the wedding.

Thanks everyone for your feedback!! -- I'm still torn where we're going to block rooms because part of me really wants our ceremony to be down near Old Saybrook :\ ... but they just don't offer the same types of Hotels ~  And I feel bad making guests drive 45 minutes from a Hotel in Cromwell down to the Church in OS -- I can't make up my mind!!
