Photographer Questions

I'm meeting with my first photographer tomorrow and was wondering what questions did you ladies ask when you met with your photographers?  TIA!

Make sure you get the photo rights for reproduction so you don't always have to go through them for prints.

Also, I ask them how long they typically stay (do they charge by hour, full day, etc).

Those are two I could think of off the top of my head.

Ditto on how long they stay, how many photographers you get, what is included in packaging, right to photos, do you get e-pics included in your package, videographer included if you are looking for one!

    Who are you meeting with?

Scott Perham, I looked at his website and love his work!  He already told me the packages over the phone and it's a little over my budget but it might be worth it.  Thanks!

Yes, rights are key! Also ask how long it takes to get your photo and be sure you like the quality of their photos of course.

I always asked to see a whole wedding, start to finish.  While some photographers were able to have amazing pictures on their website, it was just 1-2 pictures per wedding that turned out that good - the rest were rather mediocre.  When I asked to see the whole wedding, it really separated the 'men from the boys' in terms of who was a truly EXCELLENT photographer!  People I thought that I would go with didn't make the cut after seeing whole weddings.

By comparing whole weddings, I ended up selecting a $2600 photographer rather than a $4700 photographer.  Because they took more consistently good photos.  Really!

Also be sure to ask what happens if it rains. We all know it's New England and any weather is possible. Our photographers made sure to let us know they shoot rain or shine, but some photographers will not go outside with their equipment. So if outdoor shots are important to you, be sure to ask!

Alexis Stein Photography - I'm thrilled with their work!  Alexis was a second shooter for a well-known photographer in California for about 10 years before she and her FI moved to Long Island (and he was a well-known event and entertainment photographer with years under his belt, too), so they're building up their reputation here, thus the lower prices.  But I knew instincitvely looking at her photos that she was a seasoned pro - she also studied at Rhode Island School of Design, so the composition and lighting to her photos is spectacular!  I'm a total art snob, and so I tend to have expensive taste, haha!  So in this case, I'm getting caviar on a tuna fish budget.  Yay!

I got a bit of a military discount <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />  And we booked before their new website, when prices went up!  But it's still VERY reasonable!
