Bridemaids dresses and MOB/MOG dresses - Question

Hi Ladies,

I am going on two shopping trips soon, one with my bridemaids and one with my mom and FMIL.

I am leaning heavily towards short black dresses with a deep pink (watermelon) sash/belt for my girls :)

When I told my mom what I was thinking, she told me that she thinks it will look weird if the girls are wearing short dresses and the MOB and MOG are wearing long dresses, so she thinks they should be looking for short dresses. I disagree...I mean I'll obviously be wearing a long dress lol! But she won't take me answer and asked me to ask the wonderful CT Knotties!  So what do you think?

I really don't think it's a big deal - whatever they're most comfortable in!  If your wedding is mid-summer and they'd feel less hot dancing around with a knee-length dress, than go with that.  If they'd prefer not to show their legs, then let them wear long.

I don't even think the MOB/MOG dresses have to take into consideration the bridesmaids dresses - how many pictures are they really going to be in with the bridesmaids?  Maybe one, if you do a group picture.  Maybe a few, if you have a sister who is a bridesmaid.  Otherwise, probably none.

MOB and MOG don't have to match the wedding party look, in fabric, length, or color, in my opinion

Agree, our mothers were in long and BMs were in short. It never even dawned on me to do it differently....

The mothers can wear whatever they want. Length shouldn't be a factor.

I don't think anyone pays attention :). I'm more of a color person- would I notice different lengths? No. but if both FMIL and mother were wearing, say lime green, then I would wonder what the deal was. For my wedding, they're all doing shades of blue, mothers wearing long dresses, BMs in short dresses. I think as long as theyre comfy!!

I honestly don't think it matters. That being said they shouldn't try to match the bridal party because they have a separate role entirely! They don't need to wear the same colors or dress length as the BM, I think the only thing that matters is that they don't clash!

agree with PPs--I'm pretty sure my mom will end up with a long dress; FI's mother could go either way. The BMs will be in short dresses. As long as colors don't clash (and one of their dresses isn't formal while the other's is beachy, for example) I think it would look fine :)

The moms don't have to coordinate with the bridal party at all.  They can be in short or long as they desire.

The mothers can wear whatever length, style and color they wish.

Our two mothers clashed a little- one wore a long dress in navy with a sequined bolero jacket, and the other a simpler royal blue two piece.  They never appeared in any formal photos together, so I doubt anyone even really remembers. They were comfortable and looked great!

Thanks Ladies!  This was more my mother's concern than mine lol!  I just wanted to prove my point that it doesn't matter :)  Thanks!!
