Turks and Caicos or Virgin Islands?

Hi,

I am getting married on June 19th, 2011 and just started honeymoon planning. We have two places in mind: Tursk and Caicos or Virgin Islands. I am not sure which one is better. Is there anyone who have been in these places? If yes, can you also give me a name of a resort/hotel. Thank you.

Re: Turks and Caicos or Virgin Islands?

  • DH has lived in both and says he like the VI better, but says Turks is still really nice and you can't really go wrong.

I live in the VI and have never been to Turks, so I can't compare.

If you come to the VI I suggest either Caneel Bay on St John or the Ritz in St thomas.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I stayed at the Veranda Resort in Turks & Caicos last year and looooved it.  I want to go back.

Though I've never been to VI so I don't have a comparison for you.

  • I looovvveee St. John (but have never been to T & C so I have no basis for comparison).

If you go to St. John, Caneel Bay is awesome (as PP mentioned) but I think its meant more for people who like the idea of the no TV, no phone, etc. sort of experience.  The Westin on St. John has a bit more of the conveniences that I would die without like wireless, cable, etc. (sad, but true).

Also, consider renting a villa or house.  St. John Properties has a website and you can houses with several bedrooms, private pool, etc. for around 300 a night in the off season.

Thank you so much for the responds. I have another question, do you think it is a good idea to go to a resort or a hotel? i am  not familiar with these places but i dont think i will like being in a resort through all my honeymoon. We would like to visit different places, eat at different restaurants and so forth. but i am not sure if the resorts are better for honeymoons.
  • Seven Stars Resort in Turks is awesome!  It actually just won the award by About.com for Most Romantic Resort :)
  • We visited St. Thomas last November and have actually decided to get married there and continue our honeymoon. Staying on St John is more expensive, so if you stay on St. Thomas it is an easy ferry ride to St. John were you can site see and spend the day. It is very easy to get around the islands, and to all the different beaches. Just look at the different hotels/resorts they have to offer and compare it to what you are looking for. I would highly suggest looking into Secret Harbour Beach Resort. They have their own restaurant, and their own private beach. The accommodations were fabulous! It was also no as expensive as some of the other resorts. Good luck!
