Wedding/Honeymoon in Bahamas or Jamaica? (Sandals)

Hi everyone. We are getting close to booking our destination wedding (for 2), which will also be our honeymoon location. We want to get married June or July and are researching the Bahamas and Jamaica. We have never been to either country. I think Sandals is the way to go for us, but what's the difference between all the locations?  There are about 10 Sandals locations between Jamaica and the Bahamas!  Does anyone have any experience with Sandals in these countries? Or can help me choose Jamaica vs Bahamas for a summer wedding?  I've read the entire Sandals website and it's really not helping to push us to any one location.

Alittle bit about us: we are laid-back, love the beach, pool, spa, snorkeling, excursions like hiking, fishing, good food, good wine, good beer!

Thank you!!

  • I can't help you decide between Bahamas and Jamaica but I can tell you a little bit about some of the Sandals resorts in Jamaica.  If you love the beach do not go to the Sandals in Ocho Rios (Dunns River or Sandals Grande Ocho Rios).  The beach will be very disappointing to you.  My fiance and I went to Sandals Negril in 2009 and the beach there is fabulous.  I have also heard that Sandals Whitehouse has an amazing beach.  We opted for Negril because we heard such great things about Negril and the people in Negril.  I would also avoid Sandals Montego Bay because that is right by the airport and I dont believe they have a great beach either.

FWIW, I have heard that the Sandals in the Bahamas do not have very nice beaches as well but I have never been there so I don't have any first hand experience.

For an all-inclusive I think that Sandals is good.  My FI and I don't love AIs so I don't think that we will ever go back but if that is what you are looking for, there aren't really any better options out there other than maybe Couples which I think is pretty comparable.
  • In Jamaica, I would pick Negril.  MoBay is right at the end of the airport runway, so you'll end up with jets roaring past in the middle of your ceremony.  The beach was pretty nice there, but the resort overall is small, squished, crowded and run down.  Negril has an amazing beach, and the resort overall is more spread out, so it makes it seem less crowded.

  • I've been to the Bahamas and Jamacia. I would recommend Jamacia. The Bahamas is a better place to go/stop if you are on a cruise. We stayed at Beaches in Jamacia (the sister to Sandals) and it was great.

FI and I are doing Sandals in St. Lucia. They have 3 there so we plan to hop between them since it is included in the cost of staying at one.

  • Please Please Please avoid Sandals in Jamaica and DEFINATELY look into a little place called Jake's in Treasure Beach Jamaica. Jake's is part of a chain of hotels called Island Outpost. We went in September for vacation and it was the most amazing place I have ever been. You are totally secluded and everyone gets their own private bungalow....ours was directly on the ocean. We did a week vacation and including flights from NYC it was $3000. (this didn't include food though). Do yourself a favor and go to www.islandoutpost.com or search Jake's and look into this place! Good luck and have fun!!
