Riu Guanacaste- Costa Rica

Hi Guys! We will be staying here for our honeymoon and were very excited when we booked it. However, i have been reading many negative reviews on trip advisor recently and so I am getting nervous! Has anyone stayed here recently? Can you give me any information about the beach? Or trips to take in the area? From what i understand, there is red tide right now which has caused the beach to look red and smell very fishy-which is gross! Some one please tell me something good about here! :)

Re: Riu Guanacaste- Costa Rica

  • I stayed at the Riu in January and loved it.  The hotel is clean and beautiful.  It's in kind of a remote area but we weren't too far from some great excursions.  There was no red tide when i went and the beach was very clean and not very crowded (the water tends to be a little cloudier at the shore due to the black sand but clears up when you head out).  I wouldn't waste my time waiting on the long line for the restaurant reservations, most people complain about the food but I found tons of food at the buffet every night.  Another common complaint is about the liquor but you can clearly see they have smirnoff and other "name brand" liquors, just specify that that's what you want when you order a drink.  Overall I think the resort is beautiful and Costa Rica is an amazing place. You will have an awesome time as long as you are the type of person who wants to have a good time.
