Resort suggestions in Riviera Maya?

What are the most recommended resorts (all-inclusive, ideally adults-only, with great food) in the Riviera Maya?  We're looking at max. $1500pp for 5 nights, so nothing too crazy, but definitely something special.  We'd like something a little more intimate than a mega-resort like Sandals.  We've been looking at the El Dorado resorts but have a hard time choosing.  I've heard less-than-great things about the beach at the El Dorado Royale / Casitas.  Any others you ladies suggest?

Re: Resort suggestions in Riviera Maya?

  • Thanks ladies!  So far we are very much interested in the El Dorado Royale, but someone told us (a travel agent actually) that the water is terrible, it's an icky color, and that there are ugly sand bags in the water.  Can you swim directly in front of the Casitas?  From an aerial photo, it looks like maybe you can't.  Was the beach/water ever an issue at all?
  • The Valentin Imperial Maya is amazing

  • Secrets Maroma is where we are going. Voted one of the best beaches worldwide. Read the reviews on trip advisor. Everyone raves about service and beach! Also, the pictures on the website are gorgeous. We leave in 73 days and can't wait to get there!
  • I absolutely love the Riviera Maya! I would be sure to check out Secrets Capri. Secrets Capri is a fabulous adult’s only all-inclusive that sits on a great beach. The resort is extremely intimate with just under 300 rooms and offers plenty of activities and shows to keep you occupied both day and night. I would definitely look into this resort. The service is also top notch as is the food. I can honestly say it was one of the best I’ve experienced at an all-inclusive. Good luck with your decision!
