October 2011 Weddings

Tired of planning

I never thought I'd say this as I love weddings, but I'm getting tired of planning our wedding. It's not just an "I want the day to be here" kind of feeling (which I've had for a while now!). It's just that I'm tired of doing all the work that goes into it - meetings and emails and google searches and conversations.

Anyone else on wedding overload?

Re: Tired of planning

  • How much more "planning" do you have to do?  We're about to nail down the florist and music, but then really don't have much else to do immediately, which will be a nice change.

Can you take a few weeks off from everything wedding?  Maybe make a list of what else you have to do and then do up a timeline of when it needs to be done and not do everything at once.

  • I've been feeling the same way. I'm actually considering taking a siesta for the month of May. There's really nothing I need to do that can't wait until june, anyway. I think it'll be good to just not even think about wedding stuff for a while. I don't want October to get here and me think "God, I'm so sick of this."

  • I was just discussing this with my cousin earlier.
I am a little burned out on everything and just waiting for it to be over.  I mean I'm looking forward to the wedding and to marrying my sweetie, and to being married and all that of course, but just the semantics of the wedding day itself-the flowers, the favors, looking for shoes that don't hurt my feet and being constantly disappointed in this search, worrying about how we're going to pay for it...yeah, I'm a little burned out.  I do feel a little better that I decided on my bouquet this morning (I've literally spent probably a few days a month googling fall bouquets, bouquets, orange bouquets, orange-ish bouquets, fall flowers, etc for AT LEAST one year) so at least that's one less thing to worry about.
We've had so many things go wrong during planning and made so many sacrifices that we're both kind of just ready to get it over with.

  • I think it's the fact that all the big things are done and now we are on to the little things, and I swear I didn't know there were so many little things for weddings.

If you think about it, at weddings the couple is always so happy. I'm thinking it's not just because they got married, but the planning is over!

I am with you.  My May stuff can wait until June.  The FI and I both have our birthdays in May so we can use this month to party and get back to planning in June. Nice and refreshed.

  • We've been kinda "done" with most of our planning for awhile now.  Now it's just finishing touches and making sure things are kinda smoothed out.

We're doing a week of that stuff when we go visit my parents in May; which also doubles as a trip for my 30th birthday.

  • It is definitely all the minor things that add up. I've been shopping for my BMs and I'm even sick of shopping too! Tongue out

I need to do a siesta, but even if I do it for my own wedding, my sister's is in early June, so between now and then, we have her shower and all the other major stuff leading up to her big day. Even if it's not my wedding stuff, it's someone else's!
  • Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while, but I really really like this board since we're all at similar stages of planning... the posts have been so helpful!

That being said, I'm getting burned out too!  Whoever said that all the little details are overwhelming is exactly right.  I was so relieved to have the big things done (venue, dress, DJ, photog) that I didn't realize how many decisions I still have to make!  I think I'll take the month of May off too... My FI's niece is getting married in a few weeks, maybe I'll get some motivation at her wedding, haha.

I'm just coming off of few-months siesta from wedding planning.  I wasn't really tired of it...my brain just shut off and I wasn't motivated to think about the little details.

I'm getting excited again, though.  We started our registry's, we booked our honeymoon, we're going to be making a final decision on invites in the next week or so and we're doing a cake testing on Saturday!

There is nothing wrong with taking a break.  Planning this thing should be fun!  If it becomes a chore, I'd say stop and come back to it when you're excited again.

  • Yep, gettling a little tired of it. I think it's funny FI and I keep putting off registering because I think it will be a hassle - I just want to enjoy the Spring and drink some wine!!

  • I'm not sick of the planning so much as always having the wedding in the back of my mind. It'll be nice once it's over, and I can start thinking about other things again.
