October 2011 Weddings

NWR signed up for another half marathon!

I know there are a few other runners on here, so I wanted to share.  I just signed up for the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Philly.  It's not til September 18th, so 6 weeks before the wedding.  This is my weight loss/fitness plan :o)

I'm excited to run another one!

  • Way to go!!! I hope to eventually make it up to a half marathon, I have NOT been running since spring hit and I'm signed up for my first 5K of the season next weekend (Race for the Cure). I may die.

Maybe it will give me some motivation as well...now if it would only STOP RAINING!!!

  • I'm hoping it's not raining here tomorrow so I can go running in the park in the morning. I'm doing a 5k at the Bronx Zoo this weekend and it's supposed to be nice out.

I'm doing 5km this weekend for a hospital!

My MOH and I are contemplating doing a half in October. The furthest we have done is 10km. Do you guys think thats too much of a jump? We have 6 months to train I figure.

  • Yes, congrats! I'll be excited to hear how you like it. I've done the Philly half/full (which is in Nov) a bunch of times, but not the RnR yet. My mom got into running about a year ago and she is planning on running the Philly half for the first time with my sis this year. We'll just be getting back from the HM the day before so don't think I'll make it... but it's her first so I might have to suck it up!

Bronx run sounds fun! I have the Philly Broad St 10 miler this Sun. I am not sure how I feel about it... I've done it before and it is a really fun race (but crowded!!) but this training cycle has sucked with the weather, etc. and I just don't feel ready. At least the weather is supposed to cooperate!

What training plan are you going to use? I used Ryan Hall's that is posted on runner's world website and loved it!

  • Thanks for posting ladies! Running brides...woo hoo!!

I hit a slump the past 3 weeks since my engagement but 2 of my 3 bridesmaids who have been running for a couple of years are the Philly Broad Street run soon and then another race in San Fran 2 weeks before my wedding.

You girls inspire me! I'm heading back on the horse.

  • Rock star!!! I'm jealous. I'm waiting until after the wedding to do a half marathon because I'm afraid I'll hurt myself two weeks before the wedding. lol

I'm doing two 5ks in May. I need something in Augustish to keep me going.

Anybody wanna do the Tinker Bell half marathon in January???

  • I'm planning on doing the Princess half next Feb with some friends.  It's right around my 30th birthday, so what better way to celebrate than run 13.1 miles dressed like a princess???

I used this plan for my first half http://running.about.com/od/racetraining/a/basichalf.htm

Meaghann - the longest I had run prior to my first half was a 5 mile race.  Just start training and throwing in some longer runs on weekends and you'll be ready by Oct.

Thanks! That makes me feel better. I know I can work towards it. My family is not very supportive of it- they think I will injure myself. I will keep you all posted!
