  • Lake Como is gorgeous.  You should stay in the town of Bellagio, which is at the apex of the Y, so it juts out into the lake, and gives you some pretty spectacular views.  May is going to be a bit chilly still at that time of year (Alps and all) but I think it's one of those areas where you just sit and relax as opposed to do a ton of sight seeing.  It's a resort area as well as a place for super rich to kind of hideout as it's difficult to get around the lake.  The roads are crazy tiny and I thought I was going to die several times while driving up there.  Part of the charm!

The city of Como I was a bit shocked at, it's kind of... not nice.  But, if you're so inclined, there's a train stop there, and you should be able to get out and go to other areas of italy if you are inclined.

There are also boat rides and ferries to the other sides of the lake.
  • Bellagio is lovely.  I've only stayed in Cernobbio where I'd recommend the Villa D'Este, but there are many lovely hotels in all price ranges.  There are water taxi's and Lake Tours from Cernobbio that will take you to the different areas.  I would suggest Como for maybe 2-3 days and then maybe another city.   You can take the train to Florence or to Pisa.  Happy planning.  You'll love it there.  It's beautiful.

I totally agree with Bellagio. We took a day trip there during our stay in Lake Lugano, Switzerland (also absolutely amazing!). I can't recommend a hotel since we were only there for the day, but we had lunch at the Hotel Metropole and it was beautiful. Here's the website. http://www.albergometropole.it/
But you definitely don't want to stay there for more than 2 or 3 days. I can see it getting boring. But Lake Como is definitely a great choice! I'm jealous!

I personally wouldn't want to wait 7 months, but I agree that May would be a better time to go. We are leaving for our honeymoon 3 weeks after our wedding.
  • I was in Lake Como (we stayed in Varenna) for about four days last May.  It was definitely still a little chilly, especially near the water, but farther inland it was warm.  That said, they had a "beach" in Varenna (really sand on top of concrete) and my sister and I did lay out one afternoon.  I wish we could have spent more time - there are so many things to do and places to visit.  We took several ferry rides, spent a day in Bellagio and took a day-trip into Milan.  Its a beautiful, beautiful place.

As for postponing the honeymoon, we are getting married in July and honeymooning in November.  I like the idea of breaking it up (granted, we are getting married in Hawaii, so that is a mini-honeymoon in and of itself), but agree that 7 months is going to be a long time to wait.
