st lucia sandals question

I was just wondering what everyones opinion was on which resort to stay at?

Also, our budget isn't huge, but does anyone have any rooms that they recommend? Is concierge service something that you should splurge for, or is not worth it if you are budgeting? If you're budget is towards the smaller end of the spectrum for sandals, what would you recommend spending additional money on, priority wise?

  • To concierge or not...we personally feel that it is worth it to go concierge level. We've noticed that the rooms tend to be in a better location and the added amenities of mini bar in room, being able to get room service and being able to go to the concierge lounge to book excursions instead of the tour desk in the lobby as well as being able to call/go to the concierge if you need something or have a minor problem , one that comes to mind is several times our key card stopped working. One quick trip to the concierge lounge and the fixed it,.make it worth the extra cost. I've noticed several of the complaints I've seen did not have concierge level. Now, whether that has any thing to do with it or not I don't know as we've never not had concierge level. I'm sure the standard rooms are fine but for us it's all about location so we make sure to budget for concierge level in order to obtain the location we want. All in all, go with what you can afford and have a blast! Sorry this is all run together but the stupid knot doesn't play nice with the iPhone.
  • We are staying at the Halcyon for 3 nights (cheaper, concierge room) then going to the Grande for 5 nights in a nicer room (also concierge). Just had to work within our budget. Halycyon is smaller, but also nice and cheaper....so just a nice compromise for us to get a little bit of both.
  • We will be staying at La Toc in concierge.  We have a beach front walk out and are really looking forward to it.  As PP said I would splurge on the concierge for the pure convenience of everything.

  • We stayed at the Grande last month for our honeymoon.  We had a base level room (no concierge/butler service).  We visited Halcyon and La Toc while we were there, and honestly of the 3 I am really glad we picked the Grande.

I personally didn't feel like the concierge/butler level was worth it.  I thought our room was in a fine location - we had our own balcony, which overlooked one of the quieter pools and we could see the non-beach side (the resort is on a peninsula) of the ocean.  Very pretty view, not too far from anything.  Of all the things you get extra with the butler service, room service included would have been one of the things that would have been nice but everything else I couldn't really care much about.

We took the extra money we would have spent on an upgraded room and just stayed a few extra nights.  To me, I'd rather stay longer.  If you are on a budget, I'd definitely skip an upgraded room.

I'd stick the rest of your money into doing a 1/2 day boat tour (Joe Knows, Simon Says, Exodus) - they took us by speedboat to see the Pitons, the volcano, the mudbaths, waterfalls, snorkeling.  I would have paid double what we did for the tour it was so awesome!  We also really liked the ziplining canopy tour - very cool.  If you stay at the Grande, there is a historic fort in a national park 3 mins walking from the resort.  It was only $5pp to go, and H and I hiked around for a couple of hours.

    Hope that helps.
