Honeymoons

Where is everyone going for their honeymoon? We're considering going to SC. My fiance proposed there :) But would it be too cold? That is the question...Haha.

Also, what are you guys serving at your reception? We really dont want to serve a huge meal at ours. It's just too much work and money and we'd rather get to the honeymoon than worry about if grandma liked her steak.

Re: Honeymoons

• We haven't decided yet. On our wedding website FI wrote "Letting darts and a map decide where we will be taking our honeymoon". That really is our plan, darts and a map.

We do not have all the money in the world so we are having a "cake and punch" reception. there will also be cheese, fruit, crackers, and plenty of other drink options.

• We haven't really decided where to go for ours yet either but the list of potential places includes Louisiana, New York, Cape Cod, and Ireland if we win the lottery and I overcome my fear of flying over the ocean.

• We also wanted to go to Ireland but the money isn't going to allow it. Maybe an anniversary!!

And yeah i was thinking along the lines of punch and cake. Maybe mini sandwiches?

• For our honeymoon we cannot afford anything but mainland USA. I LOVE the ocean and would love to go somewhere South that's still warm enough for that in October but the FI isn't too fond of water. In fact, during one vacation to North Carolina's coastline he said he wasn't going "to go past his boobies." ...Anyways!

I'd also love to go to Disney World or something of the sort but would hate to go and leave our son behind...so I'm thinking somewhere maybe like Chicago. We could maybe tour Soldier Field (he's a huge Chicago Bears fan), take in the Art Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, etc. And ours will be a mini one, lasting maybe 3 days.

As for our reception, we're going with a cake and punch reception. Punch, coffee, tea, lemonade, iced tea, etc...along with cake, desserts, fruit. Our ceremony will either be at 1:30pm or 2pm so it doesn't clash with a mealtime for our guests.

• Our wedding is also around 2 pm. So I think i'll just stick with your ideas. Do you think mini sandwiches should be included or just punch and cake? I'm so caught up on that detail its unreal...

And I was very iffy about going to a beach for the honeymoon. My FI isnt very fond of beaches and I hated to make the trip all about me. BUT we went on a trip with my family there in June and he loved that particular beach. I asked a hundred times if that's where he wanted to go and he said yes each time. It has a private pier and we both LOVE to fish so I guess it's just perfect! And hopefully it'll be warm...

I too wanted to go to Disney, but I'd feel bad if it meant leaving your son behind too. I've heard Chicago is nice and the games are awesome. That'd be an awesome honeymoon!

• In my personal opinion, having a 2pm ceremony you don't need to include mini sandwiches. It's in between mealtime so your guests won't be missing out on a meal, they'll have already had lunch, and they'll be having dinner later. Do I think you COULD include them? Sure, if you'd like. =) Totally your call. I'm not having any "actual food."

That place you've got picked out sounds very nice...I'm with you though, not sure how the weather would be come October but you could always google that. We used to live around an hour from Chicago, always took the train in. It's a place we miss so sounds like a good place to go for a few days.

• I really want to surprise FI with our honeymoon....in Vegas. I thought long and hard about it and I don't think we'll be able to swing Hawaii like we really wanted so we might do that for our 1 year anniversary or something instead. But FI loves to gamble and I think it would be really fun. :)

As for our reception, we're doing a later reception with heavy hors d'ouevres:
Cheese, Cheese Spread, Grapes, Bistro Crackers and Pita Chips
Fresh fruits and berries with a yogurt dip
Turkey Clubs on Rosemary Bread
Ham, Salami, Provolone Cheese on Foaccia Bread
Chicken Ranch Wraps
Beef Tenderloin Sandwiches
Pecan Rubbed Pork with Cranberry Mayo
Blinies (Smoked Salmon, creme faiche and fresh dill on a Blini
Wonton Cups
Toasted Ravioli
Spring Rolls
Crab Cakes
Egg Rolls

Dessert:
Wedding cake (2-3 flavors)
Mini Pies (6 flavors)
Chocolate truffles
Mini Pumpkin Carrot Cakes
Mini Lava Cakes
Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
Cream Puffs
Fruit Tartlets
• For the honeymoon FI and I decided to go to Disney World and I am excited. We already discussed for our 1 year anniversary were going to either Myrtle Beach or New York.
At our reception, we are just having th basics. 2 different meats, potatoes, vegetable, roll, veggie tray, fruit tray, and then the wedding cake.
• Ha! I totally missed the reception question! I will be having my reception between 12 and 3 in the afternoon and we're going to be serving hors d'ouevres and lunch.

• We're not completely decided on where we want to go on our honeymoon, our dream places are Belize & Australia but with me graduating college next year it all depends on what type of job I get to tell what we can afford. FI may also be in his last semester of school so we may have to wait until the fall semester is over in Decemberto go. Our more realistic places we would like to go are a Cabin in either Colorado or Minnesota, or a trip to the Grand Canyon.

& we are planning to do a buffet style reception, not sure on the food yet though. We are for sure going to have cake & a pie bar.

• I think you're right. I kept thinking sandwiches would be too much of a hassle anyway. Maybe just the typical nuts and those dinner mints. Ha!

All of these honeymoons sound fabulous. I looked up the weather for SC in October and I also asked a lot of people. The highs are usually in the 70s-60s and the lows in the 50s. So not really too bad if you're just going to go fishing or something.

• No idea where we're taking our honeymoon, but since we can't take it right after the wedding; FI only gets three weeks of vacation and they're already planned out for next year (1 week in May for menu tasting back east/my 30th birthday, and the other two weeks in October for the wedding). So since we're waiting till 2012 for it, we're not really going to worry about it till next year.

As for food at our reception; it's a sit down dinner; my parents (the bank roll behind the wedding) are against sit down dinners, but since I personally haven't been to a good buffet wedding reception yet, I'm fine with not having one (and after reading Tony Bourdain's book Kitchen Confidential, buffets freak me out). Just trying to decide on the menu though; we're doing two options (well three, we're offering a vegetarian meal as well, which is no extra charge!). We're doing prime rib for the beef option, but we're at odds about the chicken option.

• Chicken...Maybe Chicken Marsala, Grilled Chicken Parmesan or Rosemary-Garlic Chicken?

What are you having for the vegetarian dish?

No clue yet, since it's something we have to talk to the venue about; most likely, it will be a pasta of some kind, but I don't know for sure yet. As for the chicken, our options are:

Sauteéd Chicken Marsala (what I want)
Sauteéd Chicken Picatta with White Wine, Fresh Lemon Juice and Capers (what my parents want)
Sauteéd Chicken with Sundried Tomato Cream Sauce
Baked Stuffed Chicken with Herb Breadcrumb stuffing
Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast with Crab Cake (most expensive of the chicken options)

• We are either going to Vegas or somewhere in the caribbean for our honeymoon. Lucky for us we have a family timeshare- pretty much the only financial help from family:o))))) The reception will have a cocktail hour with apple cider, cider donuts, carmel corn and some other drinks, then typical (cheap) appetizers and a sit down dinner. It sounds like much more than it is, we are on a tight budget!

• We're thinking of SC too, and I was wondering the same thing, if it would be too cold. Also considering New Orleans or a cruise.

• Oh forgot about the food at the reception.

For hors d'oeuvres, we're serving warm cider and cider donuts from my favorite local orchard.

For dinner, we're having a buffet of roasted chicken, italian sausage, salad, pasta, veggies and bread.

Cake for dessert, and then we're having a caramel apple buffet, so people can either eat theirs there or take them home.

We're bringing in pizza later on in the evening as a snack. Maybe wings too, not sure yet.

• We're not having a honeymoon :( I SO wish we could, but the money's just not there. We're planning on going to Vegas for our 1 year anniversary as a belated honeymoon, though :)

We're having an evening wedding, so we're doing the whole dinner bit.
There will be a few different hors d'oeuvres (haven't decided what yet!) at the cocktail hour, then for dinner we're doing stations (a couple of different salads, variety of pasta, a couple of vegetables, and turkey).

For dessert, it's still a little undecided. We're thinking of having cupcakes in a few flavors from our favorite bakery with maybe a small cake for cutting. Though I would absolutely LOVE a dessert buffet!! We both adore desserts and I think our wedding is a perfect excuse to splurge on junk food :) But that's if the budget allows!

• Italy's Amalfi Coast. Fiance and I are avid travellers and scrimp & save our pennies every year to take a nice trip. This years Ireland vacation was the site of our engagement.

Probably wouldn't be able to afford the honeymoon, if we weren't receiving a lot of help funding the wedding.

Late evening wedding and sit down dinner, haven't completely deicded on the menu yet.
