Alaska in Aug or Early Sept.

My FI and I are considering an Alaska Cruise in Late Aug or Early Sept. Has anyone had any experience with this or could anyone provide us with some cruising tips? We haven't really taken any type of long vacation before and would be greatful for some guidance. We are aware that it's colder during that time, but we aren't really "tropical" people, so that doesn't bother us. I've read on some posts that most people say to go for a balcony room, however we were thinking of just a stateroom in order to save a little extra money. Are staterooms really that bad? I don't forsee being in the room a lot so I was wondering if anyone had opions on that as well. Thanks in advance!

  • We took a cruise to Alaska last May and it was amazing-we would go again in a heartbeat....if we had extra money :)  We brought our winter coats/clothes and were warm at times.  We got off the ship at each port and did excursions which I would highly recommend.  We went on Norwegian Cruiseline and the ship/service/room/food were all great!  I agree with trix1223 that it was an older crowd and not much going on for night life-but I would not let that stop you.  Hope you have an amazing honeymoon!
  • I live in Anchorage, AK and AK that time of year is awesome! Although the weather can sometime be tempermental... it is usually sunny and glorious! Definitely recommend that time of year, as it is also on the slower side of the tourist season and you might get better deals!
